windshield rattles

Anyone notice that the windshield on the 06 and newer bikes seems to have a very weak attachment point to the bike itself? My 04 is a solid bike and the winshield is very stable, no rattling around. The 06 screen seems to have a very unstable mounting system..lots of movement back and forth and is very distracting while riding. I have tried to tighten the mounts with no luck and Yamaha says that it is normal. Any body noticed this and fixed it? Not whinning just notice the fit and finish on the 04 bikes is much better.

I noticed it has a ton of moving parts when swapping panels, so it's no surprise it rattles like crazy while underway. I also don't like it, but fortunately, it doesn't bother me while riding, so I just consider it an 'idiosyncrasy'. By the way, have you seen the motor? Man, it's tiny.

Only time that motor/switch will see use on my bike is during rain, so I'm not remotely worried about having problems with it. But if I liked a taller windscreen, I see how it could get annoying, and that's probably your case, no? Your only option is to get used to it man. Wish it had a positive (rubber) stop at the lowest and highest positions like my BMW had, but that's not the case. Take care.

Mine also rattles going over bumps. I figure that's in the linkage. So many moving parts. I'll accept it.

My '03 rattles. I rode without earplugs and left my visor up the other day, and thought it was gonna just fall off, then realized I was just hearing things. .. More things than before.

Well it's good to know I'm not crazy! I have the stock windshield on and only raise it if it is raining or I have a harsh headwind. Thanks for the input guys.

In the very lowest position the windshield on my 05 has started to jiggle a bit lately. Nick it up just a tad and it stops. I figure I've got some gear wear occuring when it's used the most.

I run a slightly wider and a lot taller than stock shield. Guessed I'd see this sooner or later but now that I do I don't like it.

Anyone have an idea what it might take to fix it ? I don't know what the mechanism looks like once it disappears into the fairing.

Are you sure it is the screen rattling and not the brake pads? While I agree there is movement back and forth on my '06 when the shield is in the lowest position (which seems to go away as you raise the shield), I don't notice any rattling. I do notice rattling from the brake pads in the calipers. You can test this over rough pavement by gently applying the brakes (without stopping the bike) and see if the rattling goes away.
