Not Safe For Work
I'm on my second '05, followed the instructions here to disable that annoying auto-retract feature on the first bike, and set out to do the same on number two this afternoon.
The wiring behind that "panel C" didn't look just right--at least compared to the shots in the link. I don't remember having that problem the first time, but I took a guess and tried disengaging one of the connections--looked like the best candidate in the immediate area. When I pulled it off, one side of the connection just came free. It wasn't fastened to the bike anymore. I'm sure this didn't happen the first time. I turned the key and tried the windscreen and it works just as I'd want it to. Goes up and down with the rocker switch, and stays in position when the key is turned off.
I'm just pretty sure I remember that after disconnecting the wire (at the plastic connector) on my other bike, I just ended up with two free ends, but both wires were connected to something on the other end. I sure hate having this oddball part just kind of left over, especially since I believe it's different from the first time I did the job.
Here's the point where I pulled the two parts of the connector apart. (Wish I knew how to do those little circles and arrows on the picture so it would be more obvious.)
And this is the "extra" piece that I pulled out of the other plug. It just has a single (black) wire that loops out and back into it.
Since it works, I'd probably just leave that last piece out, stick it in an envelope and hope for the best. But since I'm also doing horns, sliders, and highway pegs while I've got it apart I've got a little time to ponder it and wait for input from you more mechanical types. Much appreciated.
