Gang,

I upgraded from a 2610 to a 2730 to get XM/MP3 through the GPS. I have a hardwired Garmin cord with audio output. It puts out stereo as far as I can tell. I had a 2.5 stereo to 3.5 mono wire fed into my Mixit. I believe because of this, I am losing the stereo output. Do I need to locate a 2.5 stereo to 3.5 stereo wire to solve this problem? Would this gizmo from ratshack work? I've also seen 2.5 stereo to 3.5 stereo adapters.

Any help would be appreciated.

I think that would likely do it as long as the Mix-It supports stereo.

Agreed. . I have a 2820 with a Starcom. As long as you plug it into the output on the GPS to the input on your intercom with a stereo plug you should be fine.

I also changed from a 2610 to a 2730. I don't use the Garmin cord plug-in any longer, but use the "sound output" on the left side of the 2730. It does take a 3.5 (standard) plug rather than the 2.5 Garmin specific plug necessary for the Garmin cord.

Yep plug directly into the side of the Garmin. Makes much better sound than plugging into the power cord with audio jack.

Guys,

Why do you think the side plug is better sound than the hardwire kit? I would think they are the same internally. Anyway, I found a 2.5-3.5 stereo adapter. I'll test it out and let you know since I have both options. I always hated the snake of wires coming out of my tankbag. One less wire to have, plug and unplug is preferred to me.

I can't wait for a mega long ride. Needs to get a bit warmer and I need to play hookey from work for this.

THAT you'd have to explain to me. I have mine hardwired to the bike, not through the tankbag because the GPS is mounted on a stemstand. I need to run the speaker wire from the GPS to my autocom...whether its a 2.5 to the power cord or a 3.5 to the GPS doesn't eliminate a wire for my set up. :unknw:

The output on the Garmin cord is Mono. The output on the side of the unit is Stereo.
Yeah, what Jeff said. ;)

The GPS hardwire kit has a 2.5 female stereo connector at the end. I assumed that it outputs stereo on the 2730. I'll take a photo of my mounting setup so you can see how it works. I have basically taken a garmin hardwire kit, put a 12V plug on the end, and sent the wires into my tankbag recepticle. I loop back the audio output into the tankbag to connect to the mixit. That plus a wire for my Escort make two connections only. I've wrapped both in wire loom to make it neater.

I'll be able to test this stuff some time today and let you know. Thanks for the help on this. The point of my thread was that it is unclear from Garmin as to how to get stereo out of the 2730. One more wire through the loom is not the worst thing if that's what I have to do.
