I installed mobile audio for a chain store to pay my way thru college, +1 on the 3m Super33+ it is still the best tape out there for auto. There is another stuff, but I am not sure it is what KM described. The stuff I have used is about 1/16-3/32" thick and has the texture of that fake rubber stuff after it has started to decay. It does not stick to much but ITSELF. I would describe it as 'wire nut tape'. I use it for outdoor, semi weather exposed/semi protected connections. There is nothing pretty or tidy about a fix done with this stuff--it is like black silly putty wrapped around the splice. If you want a very neat, tidy jub that will not stand any chance of unraveling, then I also agree that heat shrink is the way to go.Or just go to home Depot and buy a roll of 3m Super33 + electrical tape.Quality stuff. I buy it buy the case and use for all my installs. Best part is you can peel it off a year later and no gooey mess.
Whatever you do, DON'T buy Super 88! It's made for cold weather only, and will snap off too easily in warmer weather.
