FJR-RemingtonRider
Their Sunset / My Sunrise
Well, a few first today started out with a "Pie Run".
To be honest, I have heard of them through reading, but never really knew what took place.
However thanks to some gracious "Host Route Planners" I was able to totally enjoy the experience.
.
Met up with "BwanaDik" & "Bambi" in Conroe, Tx on Loop 336.
Very nice folks, first time meeting...however had pm'd a few times. BwanaDik had offered the opportunity to
test ride his AE when I was in search of a bike a couple months back, and was curious about the AE's ability..more on that later.
Well, grabbed a quick breakfast burrito at the Taco Cabana -meeting point and then we were off.
.
Stop...Let me say that BwanaDik & Bambi or a unit riding team...more on the "unit" term later.
.
Took 336 to fm 2854 to Hwy 105.
Through Montgomery-Plantersville on 105 to Navasota, Tx.
105 through Navasota to County Rd. 93/William Penn rd. to
Farm Market 390..get's tricky here.
Okay get to Burton, and catch Hwy 290 for a short rip.
Here we exit to into Round Top, Tx...."Watch out this road, two way traffic turns into a one lane railroad bridge underpass...
What a nice Route planned out by the Route Host....I have to get up that way more often, nice little twist/curves.
Now, this must be said.
Having ridden mostly "gunner" with cruiser's, I caught myself sightseeing and getting left behind.
Seeing a curve and taking it easy, only to look up and seeing my "Host" zooming through the turn and leaving me.
I finally realized this was my first time actually riding with another FJR.
This couple rides as a "Unit"...I mean, as BwanaDik was ironing out Curves, Bambi was taking in the scenery without a care.
I knew then that I had to step up my "riding game". Took a few curves to realize I needed to stop staggering on the
2-lanes and just follow his trail of the curves.
:yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
Ride got really good and then we were there.
Here are some pics....
Yea, this is a very small town.
Lot's of riders showed...even the "Blue Knights"..XXI chapter I think.
Very interesting since I had never heard of this group till a member posted about them a couple days ago.
Needless to say, we all felt pretty safe with that group around.
Okay, this is "Royers Cafe", Don't let the size fool ya!
The menu was a hoot to read, just as down home as you could get. "Enjoyable"
My "Route Host" Enjoying a Burger. Darnit, now I can't remember the name of the burger, and she said it about 6 times.
Check out this presentation: My Chicken&Bacon Salad on a bed of Field Greens
Just "Awesome", and I can say that being in the food biz 20yrs.
Some one said that the "Pie Run", was the pursuit of the perfect Pie. Well, "Royers Cafe" had a great show & taste.
An Event organizer passing out raffle tickets.
This place is so recognized throughout the state/US, they had to put their awards and accolades on the ceiling- ran out of room on the walls.
The two guys at the table with us are FJR owner's as well. At least I know the guy in the wht tee is...an O4' ABS
This my fellow forum members is a Apple Pie w/Brown Sugar Maple Pecans
with Anne's Homemade Ice cream........OMG
This is Rudy's Chocolate Chip Cookie pie with Anne's Homemade Ice cream.
Two table guest eating on Rudy's pie.
A lot of full and happy folks walking out of that cafe. 30 min wait to get in.
The town square was full of riders from all over....said to be 80-100 bikes.
There were at least 6 FJR's not including our 2 that I counted at a given time. Some rode in and out before we arrived.
Don't know if they were all forum members are not, once folks dismount it's hard to tell what ride they rode in on. So seeking them out to talk is tough.
Except for me, I have FJR1300 across the back of my riding jacket; however folks who are unfamiliar think it's a riding club..LOL.
Well we took off and headed back to Conroe, Tx.
Another spirited ride back through the same route which was all too short.
I again want to thank my "Route Hosts", it was great meeting them and some of the other local forum members as well....FJRMGM & Twilkin650.
BwanaDik & Bambi were just super nice and kind, and we agreed to ride together again. It was a fun and safe ride...OH I almost forgot..
BwanaDik and that AE flowed like the wind through those curves. The way he was jetting around traffic I forgot they were on an AE..but
then again, I guess that's the point. So, I hope I never have to; but should it become necessary, I definitely will not shy away from one (AE)if needed.
I will definitely attempt to make the run again in pursuit of the perfect pie, however "Royers Cafe"...It's at the top.
.
.non-shameless plug.coming.
Oh and by the way this is my Newtome bike....my 2008 FJR1300 - "Le' Raven"
Now that she's all put together and farkled, I can clean my garage.
And I vow to have much better pictures on my next report. The camera so small it just jiggles in my hand.
