Just got my FJR back from a friend who serviced my bike. He is a mechanic with over 20 years experience. He's also a Kawi Concurs owner. He was full of praise of the design layout and overall ease of access compared to his "Connie". Said several times, "this thing is way better designed for servicing than my Connie." Well I knew all that but was good to hear it from a knowledgable mechanic. About a year ago he did a valve check/adjustment on his Connie and said it was extremely time consuming and very difficult due to very little working space. Me thinks he's ready for a FJR.

I've heard the same thing, about the Connie's. Since I do virtually all my own maintenance, the FJR is, by far, the best bike for me!!

Must be a C14 connie. The old ones are quite simple to work on but like anything else it helps if you have been there before. I have heard the C14 is a pain in the ***.

 
Connies:

I gave them a good look-over when I was making my decision nearly 2 years ago. After studying this forum for a good while, it saved me from making a big mistake. I bought an FJR and I'm glad I did. To me, one thing the FJR has that the Connie never had... was what I see looking down at the tank and gauges from the driver's seat. Connies just look--wrong. And hearing once again that they're harder to work on just reinforces my opinion that the FJR is, for me at least, the better machine.

Are you going to add anything to the conversation dipshit? Or is just another moronic episode of PWI?

Gonna have to get Ms. Bust to pull out the frying pan again for a little 'behavior modification' me thinks.

 
...with all the information here, FJRs are even easier to work on! The PNW Tech Days have been hugely successful helping folks work on bikes and save major $$$ largely due to ease of maintenance, and a few good wrenches too! ;)

Not much to fault with the current design. I just hope if [when] Yamaha gives us a new FJR, maintenance is as straightforward as it is now.

I will agree with your friends opinion. I'm a powersports technician and I have done several valve lash inspections/adjustements on the C14 and it is a ***** to work on. I hate those bikes and the dealer I work for has sold alot of them. Plus the Kpass and TPMS systems are a pain in the ***. Also remember guys Yamaha has a diag system that anyone can access no laptop or computer program needed. Kawi,honda,and Suzuki all have dealer only programs to diag fuel injection,ABS,Traction control,TPMS problems.So Yamaha motorcycles are mechanic friendly and consumer friendly. I really like the Yamaha coolaid. :yahoo:

And I bet all those pain in the *** things come in the next generation of FJR. For those who beg Mamma Yamaha for a new upgraded FJR, be careful what you wish for!

Rode a new connie about 50 miles yesterday and must say it's damn impressive mainly because it's so smooth and the because of the tranny. They still feel cheap somehow though. I guess I'll have to wait for an aftermarket 6th gear or until the new fjr is introduced sometime near the end of the next century.
