But I could imagine, that you'll find a few fellas talking about the Givi trunks, so scour this forum and see if you like what you read. I ride solo all the time, got me a smuggler and trunk and don't think I will suffer cracks on the OEM trunk, which you will find a few posts, but I think it is from a 2 up riding and the passenger is using the trunk as a lean/back rest....

2-up COULD cause an issue, but my pillion never leans on it. What I think happens is the base flexes while flopping around on the mount, especially if you overload it or, like me, put a cargo net to carry stuff up inside the lid (higher center of gravity). The material is rather thin, and there are natural stress points at the lower front, either side of the "tongue" that goes into the mount. A few have failed, and the aluminum plate was necessary for a reason. My advice, don't overload it.

I am getting a replacement for cheap, however if it fails, I'll go Givi or something like that. They aren't as tall, but wider and you can keep your stuff in the lower half.

Yeah i saw this mod on the forum and installed it. have to admit been the first time that i played a copy cat, but this mod made super sense to me, what cool idea that is.

You are probably aware there is a recall on the Yamaha trunks; they install a modification as the base isn't strong enough(not sure what it looks like). I'm wondering if there are still problems with cracking after the recall modification?
