1. Shows you what a stand-up company MamaYama is and,

2. There will be some bone gnawers who'll demand their money back

and everybody else won't careand keep theirs and,

3. there's always that one dealer who'll buy them all... B)

Also means that there might be some very slightly used ones on the market this spring. My daughter wants one but I'm afraid it's too much bike for her at this point. In fact I'm afraid it might be too much bike for me. .

This quote from the man that sent me my FJR lid...

Yamaha Motorcycle Marketing Manager Mark Dipko, who also participated in the conference call, said "We had one dealer who called and said, 'If anybody gives them up, I'll buy them all.'"

:haha:

The dealer was Texas Motorsports of Killeen. The sales manager was MORE than happy to help them out- but the reply from Yamaha was he could "bid" on them. I help out there all of the time, and got my FJR and FZ1, as well as my wife's 2 v stars from them- They would have no problem selling them. here is the Kicker- as far as I know only oe guy has said fro sure he wants out- he bought a yellow/black SE from TMS- I was there when he 1st got it and his wife was made as all heck! I think he just wants to sleep in his own bed again!!!!

Yeah, I imagine not very many will be asking for a refund based on a tachometer anomoly. It does give an out to anybody with buyer's remorse though, for whatever reason.

I can't imagine buyers remorse- but in his case marrige remorse, The same day he was in the shop, talking about returning the bike, Mywife and I was in the shop looking at an 06 R1, :dribble: We talked some, and I decided to wait until the 28th for the FZ1 to be delivered, I looked at it rode it for 5 miles and bought it, I had taded my 02 FZ1 in last year for a WR450. My wife new I was looking at bikes, eventhough I had not asked, she just told me to buy one or the other. Now I have my 05FJR and the new FZ1.

I was in a dealership yesterday and they had one of the new R6's on the floor in black. Wow, that thing is unbelievably cool! But it was absolutely tiny and the riding position was borderline ridiculous. This is definitely a bike that I'd love to own, but it's just gone too far down the sport axis for this 50-year-old rider. Even in a cutting-edge sportbike, I want something I can ride a day on without too much pain.

I can do that with my 2001 R6, but I don't think I can with this new bike.

That FZ1 looks like a hell of a package, although I wish it had more fuel.

I also sat on all the new 600s at the Cleveland bike show and the new Kawi 636 is even tinier!! I loved it! It just barely felt bigger than my Derbi, but with about 10x the hp. I wish I could afford another sportbike now, but that's just gonna have to wait a few years. Maybe by the time I can afford one, the literbikes will be just as small. Aaaah, what a wonderful world that would be.

Don't you think there is some point where, even in a sportbike, smaller/lighter isn't necessarily better? Or is a pocket bike with 300-hp the ultimate sportbike?

I think the 300 hp pocketbike might be a bit much. I don't know about you, but I'm not a big person. At 5'8" and a buck sixty-five in riding gear, with a thirty inch inseam, I like smallish bikes alot! That's part of the reason I love my Derbi so much...it's relatively tiny. I've owned alot of 2-stroke street bikes and love them for their light weight and small stature. If you've never ridden one, you don't know what you're missing. Unfortunately, the little Derbi is woefully lacking in hp, and it's a bit finicky, and parts are kinda hard to come by...but I love it just the same. But that Kaw 636 fit me like a glove! As soon as I sat on it, I liked it. It just felt right.

Now as far as that big hp/little bike thing...the oems are finally wising up a bit and realizing that all that hp doesn't mean squat if you can't put it down to the ground effectively. They're starting to build kinder, gentler monsters. My '98 R1 was a beast! Horribly explosive powerband. Spit you on your head faster than you could say highside! Over subsequent years they've tamed it just a bit. It's faster than ever, but not in such a nasty way. I'm watching that trend closely, and waiting anxiously to see what's next.

Light is right. :D :D :D

Well I'm 5'11" AND 175 without gear. How much does gear weigh? 15-20 lbs? I guess that depends on how big the maglite in your pocket weighs ;-)

Anyway...the R6 is small, and amazingly cool. I still want one. Pocket 300 HP would be too much. I don't think the R6 crosses that line, but everyone has a different line.

Conversed with one R6 owner who said the stock settings on the suspension are too stiff. Heard this from a 2005 Kawi 636 owner too. If they wanted a plush ride then buy an ST.

Fair enough guys. I'm 6-2 and 220, so I think the new R6 has crossed the line for me.

Personally, I'd like to see the mfgs fall off the small/lighter/higher-revving bandwagon and produce more real-world useable sportbikes rather than track bikes - I honestly think they're optimized to look good in track-based comparison tests and that for the vast-majority of riders, they'd be faster on a less-sharp tool. But Triumph is doing the 675cc and there are certainly other choices out there which are less sharply focused on the track mission so one can always vote with their wallet. If I were getting a new sportbike today, it would probably be the 750 Gixxer.

Totally agree about the 98 R1. I had one -great bike, but revving beyond 8K was pulling the pin on a hand-grenade. Exploiting all of that bike was dancing with the devil. I've been happier on a R6.

I am 6-4 and 225 with knees that suffered too much volleyball abuse and anything smaller than a ZX-9R has crossed the line for me. If anyone has a library of old Motorcyclist mags, there was a really good article in the January 2002 issue about riding Sport-tourers vs. Sportbikes in the real world. What was really surprising was that some pretty good riders were just as fast around a track on a Sport-tourer.
