I have an OEM top case that I acquired with the bike from the previous owner. At some point during his ownership, the lid for the case was broken off, specifically, both of the hinges have been snapped off of the lid. The hinges are still attached to the bottom half and they operate fine, but with nothing to secure to on the top half of the case, they are useless.

If I could get the plastic "lining" out of the top half of the box, I might be able to reinforce/patch the broken shell and reattach the hinges to it. Just wondering if anyone has ever run into something similar and whether this can be successfully done. The top case is in fine shape otherwise; I'm not sure how the hinges were broken, but it doesn't appear to have hit the pavement at all. Photos below are of the broken components:

I don't have one so I can't verify it, but you may be able to add a pair of external hinges and use carriage bolts to mount them. If you get stainless steel hinges and bolts it won't look bad.

I have the remains of my '07 top case, lid good, bottom case fatigue cracked..... you're welcome to the lid if you want to repaint.

Many thanks! I'll see how a repair scenario goes but this would be a great alternative option.

Piano hinge from a hardware store plus careful drilling, plus something to plug the gaps left by the missing pieces?

Probably broke from the lid getting a good whack while open.
