Recently purchased 2005 with very low miles. Have the option to purchase the Yamaha YES extended warranty for three(3) additional years of coverage. I am very capable of most maintenance on my own and meticulous about my service.

At $1,200 U.S. it's a little pricey. Wondering what the recommendation of the masses might be. I have until June to decide.

Personally I would not buy it. Other than the ticking issue (which Yamaha has covered even for out of warranty bikes) the history of these bikes has been very trouble free. I would take the $1200 and buy some cool stuff for your bike!

When a 48 month YES is available through D&H Cycles for $389 (and some other dealerships nearly that price), it doesn't make a lot of sense to skip it.

+1, Thats less than 7 hours shop time. It only takes a small part to take $400. bucks out of your pocket. Call D&H and save some $$$$$$$. smitty ;)

No question for me and I typically hate extended warranties. This is one of the few that makes absolute sense. $400 for 4 years of unlimited mile coverage just is too reasonable to pass up. $1200 you got quoted is lunacy.

Go with D&H. Unless you live in Florida (don't get me started) you can buy it anywhere and be covered at all Yamahas.

+2. $400 is cheap insurance and if you should decide to sell it, would probably have a positive impact on the selling price B)

This has to be one of the BEST forums I have ever participated in. So far I'm almost all recipient, but someday that will change.

Anybody got contact info for D&H???

Ask for Renee. Great deal on YES, and DEFINITELY worth it, no question.

Thanks for the contact info. Just got off the phone with them and they are VERY helpful folks!

Learned something new...

When you buy a used FJR that's still under the the original 1-year warranty, you have to go to a local Yami dealer and have the warranty transferred to your name first, then you can call D&H and get things rolling for the YES extended warranty.

Sounds like the Japanese have grasped the western concept of Red Tape!!!

You Floridians live in a state that's as screwed up as California is on bringing new vehicles into the state, weirder than my state on shipping out wines via UPS, and as nearly strange as everybody is in Montana (I pick them because I think there are only 2 members on this board).

It has been repeatedly reported that Florida residents can only get insurance from businesses within Florida. Probably well-intentioned idea for hurricanes that a smart lobbyist figured out.

But, I don't think D&H or others out of Florida will sell to Florida residents.

Something you should ask your insurance comissioner or legislator.

Because, mon ami, Florida considers an extended warranty a form of insurance, thus it must be sold by an authorized agent, i.e., the dealer of said merchandise. You may not purchase from an out-of-state vendor for insurance, so you may not buy from D&H.

One other has posted he purchased from D&H (I think the bike was registered out of state, bought YES, then brought into FL), but from the collective knowledge, a FL resident can't legally do so.

YMMV, so do some checking on your own. But, remember, we told you so!

Jeff, just don't wait for the confirmation from Yamaha that you have been officially transferred over. They don't send one. I called and asked after not getting anything for a few weeks.

I did get a printed receipt from the dealership that changed me over.

Just re-read your post - I wrote the above as pertains to the YES warranty itself. Not sure how they will handle the original factory warranty.

Give Mama Yammy a call to make sure.
