After reading some of the threads on all of the snow and other weather related things, just wondering what the hotest and coldest weather some of us have been through, and where.

Me,

Stevens Point, WI.: Temp -40, withe a windchill of -81

Nepalgung, Nepal: 124, with over 90% humidity. NO, there is no air conditioning in that part of Nepal.

Here in N. VA it was 3 degrees when I got up on Wed morning. Not that bad compared to where some of you all live, but friggin' cold for N. VA!! Nice tosty 18 this morning.

125+ in various deserts around the world. I actually like the desert!

EDIT - Did do a 13 day exercise in Norway - 1st day the temperature was -20 with an windchill of -87. Warmed up to around 0 from then on - nice place.

-20F on the Chicago lake front. That's the coldest I can remember. Not a record for the rest of you adventurers, but it was plenty for me. I had flown into Meigs Field for a seminar at McCormick Place. Afterwards, time to go home. No pre-heat, just hop in, turn the key and hope. Amazingly, the 15W50 oil was evidently NOT a solid block and the engine reluctantly turned over and started right up. Ahhh, the pleasure of heat directly off the header pipes. Nearly instantaneous.

At the other extreme (and I know it's not THAT extreme) was 111F waiting for the ferry at Lake Powell. Fortunately it was a very mild summer day on the return from WFO. We really lucked out missing that heat wave that passed through this past summer. During the worst of it, we were "at altitude" in SD and WY. Nice cool light rain in Yellowstone, temps in the 70's & 80's. SWEET. Bet we're not that lucky THIS summer.

My place, below 0 all week. Pyongyang, 17,999,540.33 degrees Fahrenheit if I get any input into the matter. No AC there either, at least none good enough.

I was going to say Tong Du Chon with 100% humidity and the same temp you reported. But at least it made up for it by being -35 with a 30 to 40 mph wind the following winter. And they didn't give us ANY a/c. We were the lucky ones to have the only barracks that had "cental heat" instead of free-standing oil/diesel stoves for heat... in 1975 no less! :D

More recently (and on the bike), 110°F official temp with it about 120° down on the tarmac, caught in a traffic jam for 3 hours, on the bike, near Ogden, UT in August 2003.

Central Al,

2 days ago Sunny clear and 69

Today High of 38 with some snow/ sleet and freezing rain projected

The THREAT has closed schools across the NW part of the state and everyone is running out to get milk and bread.

The Funny thing is this was not even in the forcast until 3 o-clock yest. when I left for work in the a.m it was supposed to be 54 with a 30% chance of rain. I HAD planned on an early work day and a run on the bike.

Gotta love Alabama. The only place where you can experience all four seasons in the same week.

How about riding the bike?

I did 120 miles at 11 degrees last Fall in Eastern Oregon and all day at 102 to 112 traversing from Flagstaff to Palm Springs.

In the Army in Alaska in 1956 we were in the field for a month playing war games. One night it was 63 below, being we were just kids we lived thru it, I would die if I tried that now.

going to assume you meant riding through - so

last summer while riding to WFO in the central valley it was 118 on my thermometer. got a burn on my leg to prove it (yes - the '06 has managed the heat, but at 118 - there is a LOT of heat to manage.

Been through Death Valley in the summer a number of times near 120 on the bike (on different bike)

----

Cold -

Rode to the White Stag from Reno to Tonopah a few years back - never got above -5.7 - and was frequently around -10 (yes - I swear you can feel a .1 degree change in temperatur at that level). Rode the next day in the rally for 12 hours where it probably average about +8 degrees all day. The mountain tops were actually much warmer than the valleys.

for me -65 wind chill, went for an 8 hour snowmobile ride, and we all ended up with frostbite

a high only 95, with 85% humidity.

I have seen a -88 wind chill not only once, but twice. Once was in the Chicago burbs, the other in the garden paradise of Rock Springs, Wyoming. Both times temps were in the -30s with a howling wind. NOT FUN!!!

Hottest was 142 in the Persian Gulf. Don't know what the humidity was, but it was there. One time, in the middle of the night, it was 101 degrees with 99% humidity. NOT FUN!!!!

Where is TWN to tell us his high has been 78 and his low 72?

Taking my morning constitutional along Carpinteria State Beach. Where else? Oh, and it was 62o :****:

Hottest? 117o, Baker California. Coldest? -22o, Randolph Center, VT. No idea what the wind chill was.
