I think I have to give up on finding my problem with the electrical on my FJR. I am wasting too much time in the garage and not getting out on the road.

My problem is some sort of a grounding problem (I think) Done all the ground spiders and did as much troubleshooting as I could. Bike's headlight indicator is on faintly and then when you try to start it, the indicator becomes bright and won't even try to start.

My question is.... where in the Bay Area can I take it that is pretty good with the electrical system. San Jose Yamaha has changed owners and is going downhill. They weren't very good to begin with. GP Sports? San Jose or Santa Clara... I am open to anywhere on the peninsula. I just want someone good. Any suggestions???

Thanks, Captain Mike

Hi Mike,

The only dealer that I work with when needed is Gilroy Powersports. Talk to the Pete, the service manager. He has an awesome mechanic my the name of Clark. For a private shop I'd recommend Rob at Evolution in San Jose (Delacruz near the air port).

Good Luck,

Gary

If you are talking about Gilroy Powersports, yes. They're a Yamaha dealer.

As for Evolution they work on anything. I use them for suspension needs but

they are a full service shop. Call and ask Rob's wife Jane, as she'll be the one

to answer the phone, if you have any questions.

Mike,

Pete's been in the business for most of his life. Originally at the old Honda Milpitas. About 7 years ago I spun a rod bearing on an 18 month old R1 (I was the second owner) at the track. Pete was able to get Yamaha to step up to the plate and I only had to pay ~$800 out of a $3200 repair bill. I took the service gang a case of beer when I picked up the bike!

Good luck. I hope they can quickly diagnose your problems.

Gary

I ended up going to Gilroy Powersports. What a good decision. I had been working on this for weeks trying to find the electrical problem. Pete the service manager and Clark the technician fixed the problem in hours. AND only charged me $155. Wish I had gone earlier. Anyone in the South Bay should use these guys.....

Thanks for the tip Gary

Hi Mike,

Thanks for the update. Glad that Pete/Clark got you going quickly and relatively inexpensively!
