I picked up my FJR today and got it home, now I need to make it mine ;)

I have ~$800 that I can spend but I want to make sure that I'm not overspending on some items. This is what I plan on getting in order of importance to me.

From the suggestions in the thread I've made some changes. Thanks for all the suggestions!

  • Cee Bailey Windshield +4 tall +2 wide $220@Cee Bailey
  • Larger diameter grips [email protected]
  • Givi E228 mounting adapter for my v46 $100@TwistedThrottle
  • Throttlemeister $150@Throttlemaster Vista-Cruise [email protected]
  • Techmount stem mount for iPhone/GPS $70@TwistedThrottle able to reuse RAM mount from Bandit
  • GSG Moto frame sliders $140@TwistedThrottle OES Sliders [email protected]
  • Realtime reflectors $20@Realtime

That totals about $700 $430

I question the Throttlemeister, I had one on my Bandit and loved it I just want to be sure that I wouldn't be better off with something cheaper? Also the frame sliders, having just seen what a cowling costs this may be a dumb thing to be waffling on.

Look good?

I'd get the Audio-Vox cruise instead of the Throttlemeister. I have one sitting on the bench waiting to go in. I've used them on two other bikes and loved them!!

Some hate the ThrottleMeister because they can't figure out how to use them and will tell you not to get one but I love them and kept mine on as a back up after putting a CC on.

If you really love the throttlemeister, then that answers that. However, it is certainly not necessary to spend that much on a throttle lock that works well. Also, it is probably not necessary to spend that much on sliders.

Enjoy making the bike yours....what fun!

Dude, the techmount alone will not work for an Iphone I ended up getting a watertight otter box for the 3g that has ports to run earphone/mic and power then building a coustom adapter to interface with the techmount quickmount adapter that allows you to remove it quickly but it remains locked in place otherwise

Here it is mounted on my bike:

PM me if you have any questions. PS you REALLY do not want to get the Iphone wet!

I went with OES sliders, for about half of what you're talking about spending. They seem to be high quality, several other forum members have them also. Not sure if I've read any posts about someone testing their efficacy.

Looking at the GSG sliders it's not going to take much sliding before they are into the bolt head.

Here's a Farkle list FJR Tech. Lots of good ideas.

Check out the Vista-Cruise it's cheap and works good.

Also check out cramp buster . This helps with the stiff return spring. I did unwind the spring one turn, but didn't like the lasy return so then I put it back to stock and put a cramp buster on and I am very happy with it. Plus dealing with the spring is a real PIA.

Both of these Farkles are really inexpensive and work really good. Bang for buck you can't beat them.

Ride Safe; A.C.

Coming from my Bandit the return spring is anything but stiff, that and the slop in the throttle seems monumental from what I was used to. I must have had a special case with my Bandit but there was zero slop in the throttle and now I have to pre-turn the throttle to take the slop out, anyway...

I have a thtottlerocker for short term cruise needs but I want something that allows me to completely remove my hand from the grip, I'll look at the vista-cruise.

As for the iPhone mount, I was actually able to recycle my RAM mount from my Bandit. It mounts via a U-bolt and the FJR doesn't have round handlebars... Well there was *just* enough room between the left grip/signal assembly and the brake fluid reservoir to attach the mount using the U-bolt so that saves some money.

+1 on OES Sliders for $59.99 delivered.

+1 on Vista Cruise for less than $30.00

+++++1 on the Cramp Buster. Just got back from a 2400 mile 5 day ride and love the thing and its only $12 bucks or so.

I'd spend the exta money on some extra rear lights and reflective tape

https://www.needlights.com/whrs-02zcr.html (Bright Led Lights $50.00)

https://www.3rdbrakeflasher.com/index.php?m...products_id=181 n (Good Cheap Flasher $20.00)

https://www.fjrtech.com/getdbitem.cfm?item=41 (Saddle Bag Reflective Tape $20.00)

Go for the Vista Cruise for a throttle lock. Simple, works flawlessly, and is less than 30 bucks.

A cruise control (AVCC) is really nice farkle that can be added for < $125 and a day or so of your time.

Davy

...at your own risk.

Got good personal protective gear yet?

Does the iPhone have a Radar Detector app?
New helmet this season and several armored jackets/pants/gloves.

I've never ridden w/ a radar detector and I think if I started now I'd only get into trouble ;)

Brighten up the brake lights with some LED lighting. I use a signal dynamics brake modulator with one of their light bars and I replace the reflector on the fender with one of these. Patriot (I think) posted some lights that are very bright.

It makes a tremendous difference in your conspicuity as has been frequently reported in these parts.

Here are my suggestions:

Substitute Grip Puppies-small (www.casporttouring.com) for whatever large diamter grips you're considering. Easy to install, mine took about 60 seconds. Increase grip diamter, provide great grip even in the rain - trust me on this one, I was at EOM this year. All for under $10 per pair.

Substitute the Audiovox CCS 100 for the throttlemeister. For around $90 for the Cruise plus some HW, you can have a true cruise control. I recently installed mine and can send you a parts list and my install notes if your interested.

If you're considering adding more electrical farkles or heated gear, get yourself a fuzeblock (fuzeblock.com?). It has a built in relay and offers switched and always-on in the same pkg.

Good Luck and Enjoy...

first, I thinks it a really good thing to install a throttle lock (I have a "heavy" throttlemeister) and a real cruise control. I have and use both a different times.

and, I'm partial to hyperlites...I've removed those off my past bikes and put them on the back of the feejer plus amber turn signals led hyperlites and a set front and back of hyperlites which are for conspicuiousity. I need them especially for PGR funeral escorts so folks see me and get out of my way.

I'm getting ready to install mine, I've put one on two different bikes but not a FJR, I'd like a copy of your notes if possible.

Thanks!
