Doctor Throckenstein !!!
Dangit. My air hose is at the hangar. Oh wait, I can just pull out my SLIME 300 PSI cig socket pump and up those tire pressures. After all, that's what it's for, right? Cool.
Draw out the digi gauge, off with the caps. Fits right on (no 90 degree stems). BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP. Crap. Only 34 pounds in that front tire. Guess it's been too long since I rode and checked it. No problem. Turn on the bike. Attach the pump to the tire and plug it in. RR RR rRRR R R R R Rrr(I hate that sound......)RRRRrrRRrRRRRRrrRRRRRRr..... Pffft. (silence) :angry2:
Crap. Last I checked, this air pump wasn't automatic. Oh no, THAT's how I burnt the "terminal" fuse (Auxillary DC Jack Fuse #12) last fall. Get the manual. Hmmmm That's only a 3 amp fuse according to the factory specs!!!
Oops. I don't have another 3 amp fuse (burned the spare, too, duh). Now convention states here to NEVER put in a fuse of higher value. The Yammy engineers put a 3 amp fuse in there for a reason. They would like you to keep the smoke in the wires!
I put in a 5 amp mini (ATM) fuse. Start over.
RRRRRRRrrrRRRrRRRRrRRrrrrr... Pffft. Crap. :angry2:
Now this is going to be dangerous! Kiddies, don't try this yourself at home. You might cause serious damage to persons or property!!! :clapping:
I don't have another 5 amp fuse (well I did, but what's the point of burning another perfectly good fuse). Maybe something is wrong with the pump? Hmmmm it worked on MY CAR and MY TRUCK! Nah, gotta be the load on the fuse.
Ok, I don't own a 7.5 amp fuse (but I wonder if even THAT would be high enough), so in with the red #10 ATM fuse.
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRrrRRrr....
HAH! Pulled the plug out of the cig socket. SUCCESS!!! :yahoo: (Oh but that pump wire got a bit hot (like it always does)). I can imagine the FJR harness getting a wee bit warm, too!
Little gauge on the SLIME pump reads, oh, about 42. Get my digi gauge on there (who knows if it's even anywhere close to correct) and the tire reads 55.5 pounds. YIKES! HSsssssssssssssssssssss. Ah, back to 39. That'll work for now... I'll check again on Thursday....
The moral of this story is that if you get STUCK with a FLAT or a LOW TIRE on your 2nd generation FJR, chances are VERY good that you will STAY STUCK because a 3 amp fuse ain't gonna cut it with a SLIME pump. You had better be prepared to put a higher rated fuse in there in an emergency if you plan on using an electric air pump powered by your handy glove box cig socket. B)
Of course do this at your own risk and understand that it could be dangerous and lead to injury or death, yada yada yada.
Don't say I didn't warn ya! h34r:
