It's Thursday evening here at the homestead. And even though we arrived home late yesterday evening, I wanted to wait till today and actually go see the bike before I posted up. Pics will be following.

This was a rather strange accident. I still cannot definatively say what the cause was. I have travelled up and down this particular stretch of road 'bout a million times, so I am familiar with the road and it's safe/unsafe areas, etc.

Just before "crash-n-burn" time, it started to rain. I backed off a bit on the throttle, tucked in a litte tighter, and proceeded. It was only about another mile to the intersection in question. If it was still raining when I arrived at the store, I would put on the rain gear then.

Up until this point, my memory is clear. My next memory is a very short "flash" of memory where the bike was doing a "fish-tail." It was just a quick little 'blurb' of info with no story beginning or end. Also, I was knocked unconsious during the accident and have absolutely no memory of what actually happened.

Strange things, indeed. The bike itself looks as though it took the brunt of the impact on its' right side. This ****** is broke.

One strange thing to note is that the majority of the damage is on the right side of motorcycle while most of the damage to me was inflicted on the left side. (something like 10 broken ribs, front and rear, left side - punctured lung, left side - broken colar bone, left side - ruptured spleeen - road rash, etc.)

We went back to the scene today and spoke with a lady that saw most of what happened. She stated that I actually slid a great deal farther than did the bike. She also stated that I slid through a sign mounted on 4x4 posts. (which would explain the extra damage on the left side)

As for gear? Wasnt' wearing any, 'cept for helmet and gloves. I had on jeans and a button-down ****. The jeans did very well, and according to my witness, the shirt was ripped from my body very early in the game. Road-rash is at a minimum, though. My helmet was a DOT only version that did a remarkable job. It got chewed-up and my head is fine.

Two weeks later and here we sit. Stiff as a board.

I must say, though, that the people on this board are second to none. This whole ordeal has been nothing but a huge outpouring of concern from this membership. It really puts me at a loss for words. All throughout my hospital stay, I have had forum members there to keep me company and keep my spirits high. The outpouring of gifts, well-wishes, time, phone calls, and even money are very overwhelming. I only hope that one day I can be as good a friend to you all as you have all been to me. Thank you all, very much!

On a side note, I did speak with the insurance company today. They have declared the bike a total. All we have to do now is make arrangements to exchange titles/checks. Then, it's off to find another bike!

I hope that's gonna be another FJR your off to find! You can't be leavin us now mister! :p

Glad your home and healin up. ;)

Scab, Thanks for the post, looks like the 06 is toast. Here's hoping you stay in the fjr fold and don't go to the darkside..

..as a project bike, you could buy it back from the insurance company then part it out.. or rebuild it!

Welcome back Scab!!! :clapping:

I hope all your injuries heal super fast and your back on TWO soon!

PM sent also... :)

Great to see you back! Here's to continued rapid recovery.

Thanks for posting up David... I was worried about you. I've been in a life-changing wreck (cage), and it really ***** with your mind. BTW... when I left the hospital Friday, a serious rain storm hit about 20 minutes from Anniston. After it stopped, I slowed to 70mph, stood on the pegs and dried off. I got to "rinse and repeat" about 4 more times before getting back to Birmingham. :yahoo: I was a little paranoid thinking about your "get-off" in the rain. It was totally worth it to see yer sorry ***.

David,

Glad to hear you are doing better & I hope being home will speed the healing. BTW, do what Mrs. Scab says or she might with hold the meds!!

Wayne

Good to see you back online Scab!

That bike don't look too bad... just a little body damage. I say offer to buy it back for $500 then sell it to me for that! ;)

Glad you are home and hope you have a speedy recovery. Now, what date are we going riding to break in your and Mrs Scab's new bikes? :D

Welp, you called my right side plastic and raised me a whack of aluminum bits! You won that hand! :p

If I can offer just one bit of advice it would be: Don't sneeze!

Heal up quick, there Scabby.

I had on jeans and a button-down ****.
Was that a typo? or is your sense of humor back already?

Ten broken ribs? plus all the rest of the injuries? You don't do things by halves do you. Betcha daren't cough / sneeze / laugh for a while.

It's great to see you back on the forum, in person, so to speak. That says that you're really on the mend. Keep on healing and you'll be back on two wheels very soon.

Regards to Mrs Scab, coz she's been through the mill too. It hurts almost as much as the injuries, to watch this happen to a loved one.

Jill

Scab,

It's good to have you back. :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping: :clapping:

Maybe it's a good thing that you don't remember much about the accident. Would make it that much harder to get back up to your riding level.

Welcome back Brother!! Let me know when you want to go shopping!!

Keep healing!!

JW
