Grip Puppies vs BMW Sport Grips?

Where you guys buy BMW GRIPS??

I also have the puppies and I love them. Never had any stuff come off them and mine have been on a year, 16K miles. I used dawn soap to get em on.

Just put grip puppies on and did a 600. I rode every type of condition from switch backs to highways. The first few minuites I thought the grips where a little fat. After 600 miles in real world conditions I love them and would never go back to stock. BMW grips, I don't know never tried them. I will some day but I really like the Grip puppies.

I tried to get used to the feel of the stock grips, but found them too small in diameter and began to get cramps in both hands after 200-300 miles. I tried the Tacki grips, thinking I would like barrel shaped grips, but they were too large in the middle for me to grip and I kept having to reposition my hand to hold on. Finally went to BMW sport grips like shown in donaldb's pix, and have stuck with them for the last 6,000 miles. Had them on two prior BMWs and liked them there too. I'm thinking that the grip diameter/shape and the cushioning effect needed is pretty subjective. At least changing grips is cheaper than changing windshields or seats to find the combo you desire! What works for me probably has maybe about a 25% chance at best of being your favorite. I donated the Tacki grips to another Forum member and he's happy with them. Suggest that's what we all do if you can get them off without mucking them up.

I took the OEM grips off because, like with the OEM grips for my last 4 bikes, they were too small, lent themselves to the Vulcan death grip, and caused my hands to ache all the way up to the elbows.

I first went to the JC Whitney $5 "touring grips". They lasted less than a year and came apart after riding through some very heavy rain coming into the Lake City, FL checkpoint in the 2003 IBR.



So, with pieces of those grips hanging off the bars, I replaced them with the $10 crack whore grips that were the only things available at the Maine checkpoint. These lasted long enough to get to the finish and then back home before I ripped them off. They were smaller than the OEM ones.



Finally I went with the BMW Sport grips. I like how they swell toward the smaller fingers. It reduces cramping and fatigue for my hands. They've been on there ever since.

Where did you purchase the BMW grips? Just walk into the local BMW shop or net?

I'm can't seem to locate them.

Call local BMW dealer and ask for part numbers:

32 72 1 458 396 (Handle)

32 72 1 458 395 (9-Handle, left)

Ask them to confirm that these are the Sport Grips, but since I keep all my records of purchase and these are the only left and right hand thingees I remember buying from BMW it's a good bet that this is right. I paid $25.22 plus tax.

Twilkin640's dealer gouged him. My local BMW dealer charged me 21.40 OTD. B)

Can you order the Sport Grips over the net? There are no BMW dealers around Cincy anymore...

You can try calling Heritage BMW in McKeesport, PA (that's where I got mine). 412-673-4410.

Again, I only paid 21.40 which incuded 6% PA sales tax. If they would ship them to you, you wouldn't have to pay the tax, just the shipping.

My experience as well.

Going to swap out my grips this weekend for the Sunline Grand Touring version. Any suggestions on the best "lubricating liquid" to facilitate getting them on the bars?

I just installed GT version on my 06 and let me tell you that you dont need lub to get them in

but instead make sure you put some GRIP glue or else its going to be loose.i have changed my

grips many time in search of that perfect grips and normaly i just used liquid soap but for some reason

did'nt worked on GT grips its too loose or it moved around after the soap dries. the left side no problem

but the right side you have to force it in good.other tip is that once you put the some glue in the

grip(right side)slide it in RIGHT AWAY TO THE THROTLE sleeve so the glue work as lubrication but the

glue dries real quick so you dont have much time.

by the way i like the grips a tad firm but ok. if these doest work i will replace it with BMW grips.

I really enjoy the grip puppies. It doesn't cost much to try them, and if you use an air nozzle, they are a snap to install. If you don't like them, cut them off and try the BMW version.

The negative is that they won't last as long as the BMW's. Not a problem to me.
