Greetings: Can anybody tell me what this small threaded hole is in the center of the photo? Am I missing a part. This photo depicts the left side of the engine.

That's the Auto Self-Destruct screw that you are missing!

RUN!!!! RUN FAST!!!!!! RUN FAR!!!!!

Mine must have been missing the same part...I think you are okay.

Just a guess, but maybe something for use on the AE models (clutch).

It was a convenient place for me to use a small piece of Al angle and mount up a Powerlet outlet.

What a coincidence I'm just posting one of those parts out on ebay. Just $20 and its yours. Shipping included.

I can get more for the rest of you guys if you need them too!

I believe that's the optional snorkel mount for under water riding.

Seriously, my 05 has a clamp there for a tube or hose. Is your hose missing too?

****EDIT***** 5-3-08

Here it is...

Now don't ask me what the tube is for. I think it supplies beer to the rear wheel....

Nope, not anything to do with the AE shift...

Prolly the mounting point for the factory motor lift when installing the motor in the frame.

But I do like the 'question extractor' scenario. :good:

My 08 looks the same. I guess it is safe to say it should be that way.

It's how you know you got a re-used ticker motor from an '05. ;)

My '04 ABS bike has a blank casting mark there. No hole drilled. I suppose it could be a weight saving measure?

Actually it does have to do with the AE shift,

The photo TWN posted shows the shifter details, but there is a cover over the shift linkage.

The threaded hole in question is used to hold the top pin for the YCCS cover.
