Hans, if you find something that needs to be ridden home from "anywhere," Other than training my puppy, I have nothing but time so I could ride it back for you. You buy gas and my Motel 6 stays (I'm a cheap date). Myself and a buddy are pilots so if our schedules jive, I could fly down and ride home. He can ferry the plane.
Also, if you drive south, I'm a mile or 2 off the 101 here on the coast so you could swing by and snag the trailer, too. I wished I lived a little closer 'cuz after you get a new to you, I'd slam another motor in that thing for you so you can recoup some coin after you defarkle your current ride.

Holy cow! Tree Doc just raised the forum generosity level off the charts, when I already thought it couldn't be done! :clapping: Thank you for that offer! (BTW, he's one of the guys who helped me haul it from SLO.)
And that offer brings this bike into play, which is from a forum member. So if Klunkshift were to accept, say, $5,800
to help defray TD's beer and table dance costs, then maybe I should consider just fekkin' getting off the pot and doing a Monty Hall.... <<EDIT: See here at bottom.>>

Shit-HOWDY! I ne'r been to San Antone before! I'd have to load a bunch of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys on my iPod for that run! :yahoo:
One way commercial would be way cheaper than general aviation down to there. We'd burn more than twice as much $$ in fuel alone than a one way airfare which is about <$300 from SBP (San Luis Obispo). I'd send the front half of my Russel down there and I could make it a 2 day run. I'd just slab it but would have to leave enough time to at least swing by and do a drive-by burn out on Skooter & Beemer's lawn.
Looks like a pretty well set-up machine. Hopefully the cost of getting it here balances out, otherwise the California units may be a smarter move. For grins & giggles, I should go look at the one here in Atascadero that's over-priced but has 7k on the meter. Maybe he'll come to his senses?

Here's another thought on what to do with your old bike. Yeah, you could piece it out, which is a whole lot of work and hassle, making connections and shipping stuff, blah blah blah.
Instead, why not just sell off your old bike complete, in it's known broken state, (after stripping all the farkles you want to re-use) for roughly what it's worth now. Maybe $2500? Someone with the mechanical skills (and time) to make the repairs needed would have a hell of a nice bike for seriously short money and you'd have a nice wad of greenbacks in your pocket that could be applied toward a new bike. Add that to the $5k you didn't spend on those same repairs and you're in fat city, bubba!
I'd also be looking for a replacement 1st gen. The ticker thing is NOT a big deal, IMO. Seriously much ado about nothing. Being able to strip all your farkles and re-use them IS a big deal. I added up all of the money I've spent on 1st gen farkles and I nearly shit myself. I certainly wouldn't want to have to do it again on an inferior 2nd gen bike. If ever the day comes that I need to replace my '05, I'd get another 1st gen in a heart beat.

My purchasing advisor has counseled me to cool my jets, recognize that San Antonio would cost me $500 in transportation costs and $500 in a valve job, and look at Ashland, with similar miles and $5,250 asking price.... (Mission Viejo has sold.) So I'm gonna take a breath and keep looking, including call Ashland, which is closer.

Ashland is a great little town. Fly into Medford, go buy the new to you bike in Ashland, catch the Shakespearean Festival in town, ride the bike to Crater Lake and then ride home. I can't believe they want $4 to $5K to rebuild the tranny? You should see if you can find a local shop and see if you can get a better deal? MotoJava or Werkstat come to mind.
Also elskipator over at BARF (bay area riders forum) is supposed to be a good local mechanic.
