FJRF009.2: "Intermittent Ground Wire Connection"

Well, not to hijack back to thread topic

Got my '07 back. Fix took less than one day at dealer (don't know how many hours). Report is that my harness showed absolutely no problems, but they put the grounding wire in so I'm set.

I do not ride very often in the rain (at least voluntarily) (yeah, I know, wimp!!), so that may be why I was fine.

I just got back from the local Yamaha dealer, intending to get the recall work done, and they told me that I would have to foot the bill for any extra time it might take because of the Cruise Control module under the tank. I left with my bike and figured I would just install one of the non-OEM solutions that are available from the folks on this forum. Reading this, I guess it might be worth it for me to try to get the dealer to contact Yamaha about it, but I'm not sure it would help. I don't have a lot of faith in this particular dealership's eagerness to do anything for the customer other than try to squeeze more money out of them.

Maybe I'll try to find another dealership that might be more willing to work for the customer.

Sounds like you've got their number. I doubt they will even have to touch your CC install in order to attach the supplemental harness. I would definitely look for another dealer.

Unfortunately, all of the other dealerships are pretty far away. Ride Now has a near monopoly on Yamaha dealerships around Phoenix.

I called Yamaha, and while they would not commit to covering the extra work without having an estimate on it from the dealer, I was told that they would not have a problem covering any extra labor due to the servo location. I have the product specialist's direct phone number to give to the dealer to call when/if they get to the point where they would need to R/R the Cruise servo.

I also want to point out that the Yamaha reps to whom I spoke were very courteous, understanding and helpful. I was kind of surprised I didn't even get a lecture on the dangers of adding non-OEM modifications.

So I'll probably take the bike back to the same dealer this afternoon and hope for the best. I guess if it ends up costing me $100 or so do get the work done, it's probably still worth it to know the problem has been addressed.

I also should probably mention that the only work I've actually had done at this dealership before was other recall work on the FJR, and that process went very smoothly. Other times I have considered having them do service on my bikes, but their estimates always scared me off.

If my FJR breaks in the meantime, it breaks. Now I know that if it does, Yamaha has accepted there is a problem and will work to make it right.

Well happy sweet/bitter report. My 08', showed no signs of being bitten and received a dealer clean bill of health. Recall supplemental harness installed. Bitter is, I had asked for a quote for plugs and TBS, and they wanted 3hrs of labor, around the $220.00 total mark. Well I declined, mostly because I haven't been under the 08, as I had the 04', so we need that intimate time together. Another is, a previous post had it spot on, I could purchase a carbtune for less than that and save much in the long run. Nevertheless, very happy I will be getting my bike back on Friday.

Got mine done today. Went in Last week. Service Mgr took it apart to look at it to see which harness I needed. No damage to the connector and he told me that they were expecting the supplemental harness to be in this week. Went down this morning and they did it while I waited.

Got mine done today. Called last week and assured them my harness was fine. I have 80 miles to travel to dealer so they were good to me.

Seems a bit long getting the parts up here in the frozen north. Also, since mine WAS bitten (and repaired) the dealer says they need to send pics etc, etc to Yamaha before getting the replacement wiring harness ... bike could be out of commission for a few WEEKS while they sort this out. This sounds like BS, but that's what they said.

Will try the other local dealers and see if they try to weasel out the same way. I installed Brodie's harness after I got bit last year (with the exception of the S4 connector, which isn't there anymore (the 6 wires were spliced together to make the repair in Michigan last summer)) and I reckon I'm probably safer with that than with the approved factory solution, so if I get the run around from the dealers I'll just carry on as is.

Take it to the Great Evil Ride Now dealerships at your own peril. You only have yourself to blame when they screw something up or their customer service sucks moist ass cheese.

Ok, in some sh#@ now. Here at dealer to pick up bike. Turned on engine to ride off, abs light is blinking...WTH??? Tell service guy, he rides it around the block. Light still blinking pull into service bay. I jump on forum looking for answers. Find post from yrs back well now I notice while tech is working the brake lights are stuck on as well. Lit as though they were depressed. He noticed too. So now he is trying to figure out the issue. Me thinks it a misconnect on the harness near the brake switch. Will update saga.

On mine, the rear brake lever was sticking on, lubrication of the pivot fixed it. Mine was a YCCS, and came up with an error code as well as flashing the ABS light. The non-YCCS bikes just flash the ABS light. (That's Gen II, the Gen I's don't show anything except a hot rear brake disc.)

Took my bike in this evening. Getting the recall work done first thing tomorrow. Asked them to install 4 new spark plugs while in there. Cut me a heck of deal on labor since they will be in the vicinity fixing the wiring harness. Great guys and service over at Lawrenceville Honda Yamaha in Lawrenceville, GA.

They told me tonight they have done 5 fixes, and none of them have had any collateral damage, which I am hoping is the case with mine.

Will let you all know tomorrow how the fix goes. If no problems, my buddy Andy and I are having a "Install Art's (roadrunner) harness fix night" at his house next week to put a proper fix in place on our bikes.
