Not sure if it's just me, but there seems to be three electrical type people.

Experts (they have done their own fuseblock)

Novice (willing to read and try on their own)

Electrically Challenged (scared of screwing things up)

I happen to fall in the electrically challenged. :) So, I was wondering if there is someone in the PNW that would be willing to host a "Fuseblock" install party? I would be willing to host, but don't have any electrical hardware.

What I would bring to the table for such help.

1. Obviously I'd buy all the necessary parts to have one installed on my bike. FZ1, Blue Sea or other, Wires, connectors, etc...

2. Beer or wine or whatever the host likes :)

3. I could bring a 4lb Tri-Tip to BBQ

4. Heck, if it's just me coming over I'd be willing to make sure your time was paid for. Kind of like Smitty's Cruise control party's.

If there seems to be enough interest in having a number of these installed and we find the expert willing to host, lets make an excuse to ride. The weather is starting to get better.

4lbs of Tri-Tip!!! I wish I lived closer to you. If you don't get any offers up in the PNW then come down to San Diego and I will happily help.

Good luck!

Too be honest. I plan on doing my own ride to the warmth from April 2nd to the 5th. My plan is to commute down to at least Redding area on Thursday and then just stay down there and ride some of your areas wonderful looking pictures. I've been seeing too many nice looking ride reports (it's freaking January here :) ...

Dave,

I am on the West side and will be tackling this as soon as I get a Starcom in hand. I will be installing a Fuzeblock, Garmin, Radar, and the Starcom - maybe a power outlet. I am thinking sometime in the next month or so and more than happy to have company. I have LOTS of garage space and any tool that I can think of for normal tape apart and put together. A crowd would be welcome, so if you would like to go this route - please feel free.

Beamer you post is what got me started on this. I'm in if we can find a date that works.

I have the following connected to my battery:

1. Piaa Aux lights

2. Two Powerlet connectors (front and rear plugs)

3. Homemade pigtail with 3 connectors (Garmin, Escort, and iPhone).

As you can see I really need to have easier access to fuses and clean up my set up.

Sounds good,

I have everything you need and check my pics for all my electrical farkles (see my sig below)

We don't have really good BBQ, so it'll be a treat to try yours

See ya soon; my garage and tools are your,

let's ride safe and be careful out there,

Very cool Reamer. Sounds like we can put together another Tech Day on the west side. I have a Blue Sea installed already and would be happy to assist in any way I can.

Weekends I can't make:

Feb. 14-15th (Valentine's weekend. Wife would kill me) :)

March 7th-8th

Could make the following dates:(If weather lets me get over the mountains)

Feb. 22nd, 28th, 29th

March 14th, 15th

Sooner is better than later for me, I am getting antsy to install the parts I have gathering. Not sure I can hold myself back for long. I have the fuse block in hand, radar in hand, starcom will be in this week, and Garmin already mounted and just needing the wiring. Plus I am extra motivated to get all this stuff lined out now that I'm signed up for CFO. I still have to work out head set cabling, volume adjustments, GMRS stuff, etc.

Would like to gather a list of us PNW folks that are going to CFO and discuss routes, radios, etc. I see they just posted the list of attendees so we will have to get a communication going soon.

I already have a fuse block installed on my bike, but would come hang out and offer what assistance I can. I'm sure I have some high quality aircraft wire and terminals laying around I could contribute. If I'm free, count me in.

Does this mean I'm not getting any Tri-Tip?
I'm not sure, but either way I can bring one done if I come you're way. I just have to convince my 1/2 brother to toughing up and make a 12 hour ride. :)

Shit... Just checked it's more like a 19 hour ride. :)

All,

I think I will have my stuff in by the end of the week and am considering jumping in on my project tis weekend. Weather looks ok so I thought I would see if anyone else wants to play. Again, my goal is to install a Fuzeblock, hard wire my Zumo, hard wire my radar, and install a Starcom unit. I imagine it will be a fun project mixed in with occasional cursing as I am trying to find a place to run wires, etc. I am also expecting a few trips to the parts store to get that one unexpected thing I don't have...

If this is not a good weekend for others, we can plan another time and I will plan on just helping out if I am already done with mine.

I just did this a few months ago for my 08. Happy to drop by and offer my thoughts if schedule permits. Here's my advice:

If you are getting the Fuzeblock (and not the Centech or Blue Sea), you will still need a wiring loom with sufficiently large guage wire to the battery, plus a run of wire from the fuzeblock to the rear running light wire (the blue wire) to tap in for the switched relay. You should either visit an electronics shop and buy it in bulk, or you can custom order lengths from easternbeaver.com (don't stress that he's in Japan, you'd never know it, Jim ships quickly). If you order a precut loom, make it far longer (i.e. 18 inches or more) than you think you might need.

2. Go online and order some positaps/posilocks, unless you intend on splicing and/or soldering the switched relay connector. Eastern beaver sells these, or you can order in bulk from posilock.

3. When you are at the electronics shop, pick up an assortment of heat shrink tubing. Also pick up some nylon braided sleeves (you can buy in bulk length) and heat shrink to fit the braid. This will make your install look more factory and not sloppy. And get extra fuses to have on hand.

4. Have on tap lots of nylon ties. Also, worth stopping by the dealer and getting extra plastic rivets that hold the fairing stuff on; in case you break one.

5. If you are also going to wire in a starcomm, make sure you buy all the necessary cables from Starcomm to get audio from GPS, radar, IPOD. You only want to open up the bike to run these along the frame once, preferably stuffed inside a loom for protection and custom look. Otherwise, it is a pain in the ass to add them in one by one, since you have to get the tank propped up and you risk scratching the plastic.

6. If you are thinking about other add ons, like a powerlet adaptor, a tail for hooking up a battery tender, or a datel voltage meter, buy them now and get the install done all at once. Much easier.

7. Someone should bring a dremel tool to cut the fairing plastic if you intend on installing a powerlet adaptor or a starcom helmet plug outlet (methinks this is necessary for the rider, much better than having the wires coming out from the seat). Also, if you are installing a starcomm helmet outlet for the passenger, you will want a unibit to cut the right hole in the rear plastic.

8. Lastly (or should be firstly), first figure out where you will mount the fuzeblock first, then buy your wiring to the needed length (and then some). I mounted my centech in the tray underneath the rider's seat, others have mounted under the passenger seat, and the starcomm best mounting place is to mount vertically, in between the rider and passenger seat, using some velcro to mount.

Good Stuff, Hudson. At least for me, I have:

1) Posi-taps, twists, locks, etc. on order and they will be in, they look awesome.

2) I have all the Starcom provided cabling and will be running at the same time.

3) Wire ties/zip ties by the gazillions.

4) I have a dremel but not sure about which bits - there is enough stuff around to make this work.

5) I have locations determined, but willing to change if something better comes along.

6) As far as heat shrink, cable looms, etc. - not real sure what size or where I will run the cables yet - that is where you would be a very big help.

7) Likewise, advise is useful on where to put helmet connections etc.

8) I am thinking I will tin the ends of the wires going into the Fuzeblock, wasn't planning on any other soldering.

I don't have plans for a powerlet adaptor yet, but I planned on putting one in someday. I think this can be used for back feeding power with a battery tender as well. If so, I should probably do that during the same project but not sure I have time to scrounge one up. Are they available locally? If your out and about Saturday, would love to have you come by. With a little planning I on timing, I would even have the bike apart so we could just dive into the good stuff.

Aren't you out towards the end of 18? I was just through that area earlier today.

I can host it again. I have lots of supplies, a big enough garage to get many bikes inside. March 14th would work best for me. I have both the cantec and blue sea installed on my bike with relays and starcomm.

Let me know. Most know who to get to my house since they were here for the last one. (Still have some of the beverages left from the last time too)

although I am not ready yet to work on mine, I would love to watch and learn the tricks.

I have lots of electronic/electrical knowledge and tools I could bring for use if there is anything others might be missing.

Locally Vetco often has some of the hard to find wire, connectors, looms, heat shrink tubes, etc. Located in Bellevue.

Okay since I got this started I should try to help organize this.

1. Since AuburnFJR is willing to host and has a "killer" set of tools. :clapping: Let's have him host

2. Date: March 14th sounds like it should work (I sure hope I can get over the pass).

Questions for you all

1. What start time would allow us time to work and drive back to our homes? I'm not sure how long this will take, but know it's a couple hours if you're taking off the fairing pieces. I was thinking 1:00pm. This would give us sometime to ride over and would get home not too late.

2. If it takes longer would Auburnfjr be willing to host over night?

Thanks,

Dave
