Death Before Disco
Well friends, next weekend is the one year anniversary of an accident that threatened to be a defining moment in my life and was close to being the ending moment. I find that certain topics become wearisome after a while and the topic of this accident is becoming one of them. I have not let the incident become a defining moment in my life nor will it need to be regularly referenced from here on out.
The One Big Exception:
This fabulous FJR community took up a collection for the all volunteer EMT team that were amongst the first onsite and did a quick and professional job of tending to me and my wife. They knew their business, secured us, readied us for transport, and got us out of a very tough area using their common sense and creativity. They used a combination of people, two local boats that were fishing in the area, ambulances, and a MedStar (life-flight) helicopter to get us to to the closest trauma centers. In response, this FJR community provided about a thousand bucks and a few friends locally provided a bit more.
There will be a ride this Saturday to honor this EMT team. The goal is strictly to thank them, hug them, draw attention to their needs in their local community, and present them the check that represents the donations from this community. We will need to be at Vaggen Field in Colville at 3:00 to take part in a potluck that the EMT's are throwing together. Newspapers and local TV news have been notified and it is hoped they will be in attendance to help chronicle the efforts of these fine folks. The MedStar helicopter plans to fly in and take part in this shindig and is schedule to land at 4:00. I can tell you this: The EMT team is totally stoked we are coming out, the event last year was a big deal in their work lives. The money, however modest it appears, is a big deal to them. It will go to better equipment not normally supplied and maybe help with a holiday party for them at the end of the year.
If you are in the area and would like to go on a very nice ride, PM either me or my friend Panman who is doing the route planning. The crew going so far is planning a Saturday early meet and a Sunday return.
