Got mine today. Took about 3 days to get to Illiana. Thanks Howard!

EDIT: Well, since admins moved my post from "Thanks Howard" to this new thread of GLUE, I'll chime in. <_<

Yesterday I used a two part epoxy (the clear kind) to glue the FE to my fender. Cleaned the paint off, sanded both surfaces with 150 grit and laquer thinner. Epoxy held the fender surface fine, but not the Fenda Extenda. So I cleaned the epoxy off and started over.

I used PlasticWeld last time on my '04, but didn't have any laying around. Too lazy to go out and buy some (in 12 degree cold, brrrrr) so I used what I had laying around. I still had the black PVC glue that I had tried to use on the first Fenda. I tried it again. This time the black PVC glue held without any problem. I grabbed the two parts of the extended fender and tried to rip them apart like a phone book. No tearing apart this time. GOOD TO GO and mounted.

Too bad the Fenda Extenda comes up short of the bottom of the chin of the cowl. You'd think for forty bucks they could have made it an inch or so longer. I'm thinking that the 2nd generation FE will be of some help, but not as effective as on the first generation FJRs. YMMV.

Got mine also! Now what kind of glue do you recommend?
I used 'Gorilla' glue. never had a problem with it until I stuck my fender in the ass of a deer in Washington. Just be careful to not get it too close to the edge as the glue does expand.

I used some type of 5 minute two part plastic epoxy I got at Ace Hardware. I think ABS cement would be a good choice too.

IMHO, prep is the key. I cleaned with acetone, then rough sanded the inside of the fender. I then removed the adhesive strips from the extenda, cleaned and rough sanded it also.

Like MG said, be careful about applying too much glue, as it will squeeze out the sides. I then used some HD spring clamps (using a clean cloth to protec everything) to apply pressure overnight.

My glued on only fenda extenda has been on with no problems for 90,000 miles and has been subjected to all kinds of abuse.

Please reread the rules of this thread at the top. You want to talk glue....go start a thread in Technical Discussions. Deleting posts that are off-topic tomorrow.
D'oh! The Igmeister be correct. I'll see if I can move these posts.......

Pardon me if I'm clueless and have missed it elsewhere in the forum - can you post a link or contact info? It can be a crapshoot to find stand-up vendors and I'm always happy to take advantage of someone else's good fortune when they find one.

It's hard to argue with success like Skooter had with 5 Min Epoxy. That is my favorite all around glue. Its fast, clear, and stronger than many of the materials being glued. The rougher the surfaces, the stronger the bond.

However......plastics are not easy to stick to due to their slippery surface. Epoxy sticks to it IF it's rough enough and maybe the roughened up area is large enough on the Fenda Extenda that it is ok. I used the PVC/ABS cement because it actually melts the surface of the plastics being joined and allows them to flow together to form a sort of weld. Prep IS the key. Its still there after a year and a half.

My $.02,

Charlie

It's been years since anyone posted to this thread, but thanks to the info supplied here, I just finished putting a fenda extenda on my 05. After peeling off the double sided sticky tape that comes on the unit, I roughed up all mating surfaces with 80 grit. I chose Loctite brand plastic epoxy. This two part epoxy sets in 7 minutes and says that it is made for ABS, PVC and "most plastics." Before gluing, I carefully taped off the edges of the fender to protect it from oozing glue. Thanks for the warning, forum!!! Good thing. It was oozing everywhere. The area to be bonded was about 3 1/2 x 4 and I coated both sides to be bonded with the epoxy, using about half of the .85 fl. oz. supplied in the tubes. It took about 6 minutes to get it all mixed, spread, and together. I just used a popsicle stick. I put three clamps on it and let it set for about a half hour. Four bolts to put the fender back on the bike, and that's it. Now that it's done, looks like it's pretty solid.
