Looking for info on my recently purchased FJR.

Hello, I bought a used 2014 Fjr from a guy near St Louis Mo. when I bought it it was filthy, but the story was he’d bought it from a friend, who was trading in for the trade price. Then he found out he has Cancer and was selling the FJr and his R1.because he might not be riding anymore. I stupidly bought the story and figured he didn’t have the oomph to clean it up. When I got it home to clean off the layers of bugs and grime I found that it was terribly rock chipped. It looks like it was on a gravel road behind a bunch of dirt bikes throwing rooster tails.
(Yes, I’ve learned don’t buy a dirty bike.) I it had just under 21000 miles and the bike is pretty well equipped. Rear case, Lamm seats, nitro shock on rear and supposedly upgraded front forks with Pirelli Angel Gt tires. The thing is I think he was just flipping the bike. Of course he knows nothing about its history and after my nasty emails we aren’t talking. I’m just hoping someone might know the bike and its history. (I’m thinking AlCan highway?)
Not for complaints but for info on maintenance and how it was set up and any history.

I'd start with changing ALL fluids, brake, oil, coolant and perhaps fork oil. Check and or replace air filter and inspect the brake pads, then go ride it

Looks like a nice FJR. Just be aware of the rear subframe issues that can occur with that type of mounting of the rear topcase.

I'd suggest checking that all the factory recalls (if any) are done or not.
In the USA, have your VIN in hand, and you can contact the Yamaha mothership directly, by phone or on-line. Click:

Or Yamaha customer service 1-800-962-7926
They will have the recall records for your FJR. The phone number gets you a real human, fairly friendly and chatty, on the average. You could do the same with NHTSA, just to double-check, but Yamaha probably knows better than NHTSA about your bike's status.

Yeah, check the subframe holding the top box, and check the OBD for any codes (see manual). Check the link below for your Owner's Manual.

If you buy a Factory Service Manual, it's a thick book from a dealer, paper, about US$ 100. Any cheap "copies" on the Internet are usually pirated CD scans of the book, which you cannot Search. The FSM was never released by Yamaha in any digital format. The ads often will show the "legal" paper book, but you want to know if you are buying the real book, or cheap scanned CDs.
