Make sure you have all your tools ready to go before attempting this install as it will save a lot of frustration later.
Tools needed:
A set of allen wrenches. Specifically a 2.5mm and a 6mm.
19mm socket
17mm socket
6mm allen socket
torque wrench
36mm socket (for the steering stem nut)
A breaker bar is a good idea too.
Protect all painted surfaces and side panels.
You will need to cut the metal wire looms that hold cables and lines. You will not need these after the install. I used a hack saw with a fresh blade.
Be careful when cutting for obvious reasons and there is not a lot of room so avoid hitting the instrument panel.
Here I've bent the wire to make pulling the lines and cables out easier.
Same thing on the right side.
Remove the handlebars and discard the wire loom after removing the top triple clamp.
I took weight off the front to help make removal of the top triple clamp easier per the instructions. I was alone so I had to use my lift. If you have a helper have them press down on the back to accomplish the same thing.
This is the wire loom removed.
Replace the top clamp and torque the pinch bolts and stem nut. I replaced the OEM nut with the aftermarket one with access for a Ram Ball.
Torque the pich bolts. All values are included with the instructions.
Gen-Mar allows the OEM three positioning of the bars.
Install the riser.
Install the new bolts.
It's tough to get a 13mm wrench on the bottom of the new 8mm bolt. I used a box wrench. Make sure you install the 8mm with the allen socket up. Instructions did not make this clear.
Left side installed. Each side is clearly market.
Repeat for the right side.
The finished install. Net result is bars are now 1" higher and 1/2" back.
It was fairly easy to do and no need to drill out the ignition. Just take your time and get all tools lined up ahead of time. A lot of bang for the buck at around $90.00. https://www.zianet.com/GenMar/ Call to order as I did not see on their site when I ordered.
After a short ride tonight I felt an immediate improvement in rider comfort. Less reaching forward and a more comfortable upright riding position. I give it a 10. This bike has to be the most comfortable and long distance capable bike I've owned. I hesistate to add up all the bikes I've owned. Let's just say I've owned quite a few.
