08 prices

Am planning on seeing the new FJR at the NY Motorcycle show over the weekend and am sure that I,ll be ordering an 08 shortly thereafter to replace my 05 which I am selling to my brother.

My question is What is the MSRP on the 08? and can I expect the dealer to knock anything off this MSRP? ie: how much should the bike cost me? and at this point are the 08s readily available? thanks JIM

Call D&H! You would have to ride it back from Alabama, but hell, that's a good reason to take a long weekend vacation, and you'll get your break in out of the way so you can really ride it!

Assume you mean the "A" (not AE) version. MSRP for the 08 A is 13,899.

I bought (reserved) one from D&H, but around here the dealer quotes varied from full MSRP to to a low of 12,500 + TLD (Tax/License/Document) fees.

My deposit for an 08 was sent there last week, on the last one they had allotted (they will get more, but haven't confirmed delivery yet).

I spoke with Jerold for almost an hour; he was extremely helpful, and I'm looking forward to picking it up within 30 days. All in, I'll spend less on the 08 than some dealers are still charging for 07s.

So, somebody spill the beans. How many clams is D&H charing for an 08 A model FJR (not including tax, title,....)?

That is the correct price for everyone. You get that price without having to do any negotiations or any of the nonsense other dealers might put you thru for the best price. I pick mine up tomorrow morning and get to ride 160 miles back home. I sure wish that I lived farther away. This is the 3rd FJR I have bought from D&H. Never a problem. I just hope that I can sleep tonight.

I'm new to the forum so I don't want to break etiquette here by including information that maybe I shouldn't, but I've been reading the heck out of the forum and have been doing even more searching for all the behind-the-scene numbers before I took my wallet to the dearlership. Nobody seems to have any deffinitive answers here so I headed on over to cyclebuy.com and purchased the dealer invoice report for the 2008 FJR1300A. Like I said, I don't want to break etiquette, but in order to keep everyone in the future from having to hunt as hard as I did, here are the numbers:

DEALER INVOICE REPORT

2008 FJR 1300A

LIST PRICE: $13,899 (MSRP)

DEALER INVOICE PRICE: $11,752

Dealer invoice price includes $216 freight charge for shipping from the manufacturer to the dealership.

Assembly Cost: $90 per Yamaha pricesheet

Each dealership has its own method of figuring actual cost of assembly and preparation for sale. There is no reimbursement by the factory for this cost to the dealer.

Ready to sell cost: $11,842

This model Yamaha has 3% (of MSRP) dealer holdback.

This holdback money is paid to dealers in at the end of the model year for units that are sold within the previous 12 months. Dealers must pay Yamaha the full "Dealer Invoice" price and wait up to 12 months after selling the machine to recieve their dealer holdback.

Wholesale Incentives: none at this time

Retail Incentives: none at this time

The "Ready to sell cost" is the cost of the machine with NO PROFIT to a dealer. Dealers do not stay in business very long by selling machines for no profit.

Many dealers charge additional fees for "freight and setup" over and above the selling price of the machine. Add the "selling price" to the "freight and setup" charges and subtract the "ready to sell cost" to determine the PROFIT a dealer is asking to make.

That's word for word from the DEALER INVOICE REPORT through cyclebuy.com. I hope this helps when it comes time to turn in that '05 or '06 for that shiny new black bike you've been wanting.

I offered my dealer $12,300 plus tax/title/license, because I knew D&H would charge $11,999 and that I would have to pay about $300 in hotel and gas riding it from AL to AZ. Dealer said yes, so I rode it home that afternoon. Getting ready to do the 600 mile service this weekend.

Meanwhile, the MSRP here in Canada for the 2008 FJR 1200A is $19,090. Which made sense when the Canadian dollar was worth only $US 0.64. But now that the dollar is on par, a $5200 difference is hard to swallow.

My local Yamaha dealer (whom I believe) says his price is $16, 388, and he can let me have one for $16,699. I'll probably go for this, but I think I'll look into what would be involved in buying one in Montana and importing it home.

You just earned one "get out of jail free" card should you ever do anything to deserve a warning.

Some have already picked theirs up, [as well as having paid hotel/gas as part of the venture] which is just fine if you're in an area that has good riding climate into the winter months. Some are finding pretty good prices away from home [D&H and elsewhere] though by the time the gent in the earlier thread pays his home state taxes he's gonna be into the low $13K bracket. ...and I am curious whether the farkles he mentions [trunk/sliders/risers/etc.] [or just the install] where included in the cost, ...if affirmative, that's a sweet deal?

So, I suppose I mighta saved a few sheckles by shopping around, ...but the local dealer is only about 4min from the house and I'm first name familiar w/ their mechanic & respect his abilities. So after some good natured wrangling we reached a consensus @ $13,330. lic/tit/OTD. Riding weather around here being sketchy at best both currently [snow/ice as I type], and more than likely thru sometime ~April [& it could still FOOL ya], ...just means not picking it up 'til March is giving me time to collect [& maybe install] farkles. Yeah OK, you win, ...I'm sure my throttle hand is gonna be gettin' pretty itchy by around late February! ...but they know they're not to touch the crate 'til I'm there w/ the camera!

As yet I hafta say, I haven't seen anything posted that really makes me want to kick myself for deal I agreed to. I might regret that I neglected to toss extended warranty costs into the initial debate. But I'll bet in the end we'll still find the space to kick that'n back & forth some too.

Anyone know if D&H's $11,999 includes tax/ttl/lic for AL residents? If so then they would be selling way under invoice to those that live in AL. Non AL residents still have to pay tax/ttl/lic when they got home.

no. that's their price for the bike. when out of state, you get a certificate of origin and deal with TT&L in your home state. when in AL, you get all the paperwork needed to walk it through the process. you might be able to get them to do it for you, but it's not difficult to do, so save some cash (document fees?).

the trick is that, by going to D&H and doing my own TT&L, my TT&L will be lower every year for the life of the bike (even when it changes hands). in states where the TT&L is based on sale prices, higher initial costs will haunt you and all future owners in the form of higher registration fees and such.

that's my opinion too. OTD shouldn't include a lot of state-specific fees that mask the actual cost of the bike. TT&L isn't the cost of the bike. it's the cost of all the state programs and varies from one state to the next.

but, as long as this has been discussed (since the first wave of PdPs hit the US) there are those that argue the other side of the issue (that TT&L should be included in the definition of OTD). i've never been able to sway someone that was adamant about the other position but it hasn't changed my opinion that TT&L is not a way to discuss OTD in any way that makes comparisons possible.

And I'm one. But that's more of a location thing. True, depending if you buy in your state or out that OTD could be different. Here in Prunieville (California) its cut and dry. OTD is "Out the Door." In other words, how much $$$ is it going to take to remove the vehicle from the premises and you're gonna get zapped with TTL, like it our not. We don't have the luxury of buying out of state - if we did we'd never be able to register the vehicle as new here (at least without funny business). A big no-no. The converse is not true. I worked at a dealership where out of state or out of country deliveries occurred. TTL was not included but the bike had to be delivered out of state! So our drivers would drop it off in Arizona or Mexico (for a charge of course) & additional paperwork to fill out to CYA the dealer.

Here, if you ask for an OTD, the definition is clear. Every dealer in the state will give you a quote that includes TTL.

I found a hungry dealer in Michigan that let me have an '08A model for $11,900 +Tax and plates. Much lower than I paid for my '05 ABS, and I didn't have to wait almost a year either! :yahoo:
