I've tried to get ahold of smthng, but haven't heard anything back, so here goes.....

I've started planning an EOM '06 around Boone, NC. Boone is in the north western mountains of North Carolina, and is centrally located to the Blue Ridge Parkway, Shady Valley, and tons of other good mountain roads. It's also a little bigger town than Townsend, and has more eatery options and such! (also the more traffic and such that goes along with it.)

I've found one hotel that could house the whole group with reasonable rates ($58 weeknights, $68 weekend nights). There's a pair of nicer hotels with the same owner who could host us, but thier rates are $69 weeknights and $99 weekend. The extra cash would buy wired/wireless internet access, free breakfast in the morning, and a generally nicer hotel. I've also got some feelers into one of the NICE resorts in the area who had good group discounts, but haven't heard back from them yet.

Planned rides would include:

#1. Blue Ridge Parkway north route, up into Virgina, and over to the Mount Rogers national park area.

#2. Blue Ridge Parkway south route, down to Asheville, and over to the Smokey Mountains national park.

#3. A day at Shady Valley. For those not familiar with Shady, it's basically a small town located in a bowl of mountains with twisties running out all 4 directions of the town crossroads.

There's a small little country store in Shady Valley that can set up a group lunch, and the area is very condusive to a large group riding off and back in small packs. It's a GREAT area to ride! For more info on Shady Valley, click here!

Best of all, this whole area is pretty much in my backyard, so scounting rides and working on area logistics is fairly easy for me.

Here are the questions on which I need input!!!!!

#1. Schedule??? I've been looking at the Sept 9th weekend, which is 6-7 weeks after WFO/National. Much later and you start getting "leaf looking" crowds. Much earlier and we run into overlap with WFO.

#2. Other rides in the area? I'm from the TN side of things, and once I get west of boone/asheville and the BRP, I'm not familiar with the area. I'm sure there are more good roads though!

#3. What level of hotel should I book? I could go either way, but would you guys rather pay a little more for a nicer hotel, or keep it on the cheep?

#4. Does someone else want to host it elsewhere? This is just an offer, it's by no means an announcement of when/where EOM '06 is going to be held, although it could quickly become so! ;)

Hiya Slap !

1) Sept 9 seems a little close to Labor day, how 'bout 10-11th or 16-17th ?

2) I'm from DE so no help here...

3) I lean towards cheep but will do either. $ 30 extra for weekend seems alot (at the nice hotel) (don't mean anything except Jeez what a price hike for Sat/Sun!)

4) You don't want an EOM in the flatlands of Delaware...

Great idea to get the questions out now. Come June/July we're all gonna be planning the Reno ride...

I think the CFO is tentatively scheduled for Sept 15-17...if that makes any difference.

However, any date works for me. I'm not planning to go to CFO.

Thank you for taking the first steps toward scheduling the event.

I can do the cheap hotel or the more expensive. My preference would be to stay at the same place as everyone else,so as long as one of the places can accomodate all or most of us that's where I want to be.

If we're going to be competing for accomodations with the leaf peepers then we need to book as early as possible.

Any time in August, September, or October is OK for me.

Well hurm... If we do it any later, it's gonna be cold and leafy, and hard to get hotels as easily. If we do it any earlier, we need to be well before WFO/National, which puts us into spring/early summer. If that's the case we need to get on Hotels ASAP!!!!!!!

I don't really care, what do you guys want to do? Is anyone planning to attend both events if scheduling will permit?

September 9 would be best...

weekend after holidays all the cops are off...I tend to be a cop magnet so the weekend after holidays are my best time to ride

That area is great riding, central to Canada and the aliens in Florida :)

No on else has stepped up so do it Slap!

Thanks :D

I won't be any help til after tax season, April 18 here in Massachusetts

Boone is a good riding area. Personally, I would've liked to plan something in WV but haven't taken the steps to do so.

That being said, take the reins Travis. That's cool with me, for sure. I'd be glad to take some responsibility with planning, too... whether it be as simple as meeting up to do some route planning... and I already have a suggestion... Ride north up the BRP into VA to Rte 58. Take 58 west into Damascus. Drop south on 133 into Shady Valley & explore that area a bit. It's some great riding people! I'd need to look at a map to route back around towards Boone but know firsthand that it can be done. I hear that Rte 221 is good, also. Haven't ridden it, yet. That could be in the mix there somewhere.

Hey Travis, you wanna' ride 194 again???? Hahaha!!! just kidding.

Also, the part of 58 we'd be riding b4 dropping into Shady Valley... with the exception of one section, is great twisting/sweeping road.

David Gilley is very familiar with the area. I bet we'll be hearing from him soon.

Also, I'd be voting for the cheaper hotel... although I'd like to hear from the the resorts... see what their group rates are. You thinking the resorts in the Banner Elk area?

That was the general area I was thinking of, but don't know it too well. It's one of the areas that I need to scout better.

I'd planned on shadey vally taking the better part of a day, and the BRP north being a seperate route. I was thinking about this because Shady Valley really warrants taking all 4 legs, and it's not practical do to in a long day ride. Plus I've got a great (longer) return route to Boone that takes one of my absolute favorites, US321.

I was actually planning to offer this as a "skills building practice road from hell" not to be taken lightly!

It's fun... in it's own special way!

Mr. Bill: If you'd like to handle the dinner again, or anything you'd like to do specifically, let me know and I'll leave them in your court. I've been looking at places to feed us, but haven't called anyone yet.

I've got a couple people (luvtoride and Brazos Parker) who've offered to help me ride scout. I know one or two other locals who aren't on the board I might could get some good roads out of too. I'd like to hear all the suggested ride routes, and I'll try as many as I can, and give my reports back comparing them.

I will be attending the CFO and was hoping to attend the EOM this year. However, I don't think you should really consider changing from September. I am probably the only one that was planning on attending both.

September is a great time to ride...I think that's why both events gravitated toward that month.

I think it would be too hard to get it all organized for a May/spring event. However if you do, I'll be watching and signup.

Have fun and way to step up Slap!

Lets find out where lodging is and I'll work on dinner from there.

I just recieved a reply from one of the other places on my list. They are slightly cheeper on the weeknights, and higher on the weekends, but comes about $20 cheeper than the other. They also have a resteraunt that can host the diner, or cater, whatever. I might have to make a trip up there and stay one night to go snowboarding.

Slapnpop,

The new people with the slow and ugly 2006 bikes will probably be there too so figure we may have 30 more than last year for dinner or around 90.

Ask how many they can seat so we can do the meeting after dinner in the same room. Saturday nights fill up fast so you want to go snow boarding soon so I know where to get the dinner set up ;)

I can help with scouting, even though I live in Florida, I have a timeshare in Boone and go there quite a bit during sking season.

Skippy

I'm 100% game for September in Boone, NC.

Leaning towards a decent lodge/resort, but will come to the event regardless of accomodations (just not bugs and no outdoor plumbing :)

I'm a bit far to help plan routes, but can volunteer to assist with other items if needed.

Hey Skippy, what is the latest on the front wheel lock?

This is what I got from the importer after he wanted to do the deal and quoted me the prices.

Dear Stephen

Please hold off on the posting for the Locks until I check with my superiors on pricing.

I may not be able to offer dealer pricing - unless it actually goes to a dealership.

I will see what I can do

Thanks

Keith
