Windshield Auto Retract

Ok, I am sure this topuc has come up before, but I can't seem to find it through a search, so here it is.

How do I disable the windshield so it doesn't retact when I turn off the key? Surely it can be done. If I had a service manual I am sure I could figure it out, but the 06 manuals aren't in yet.

Some 03'-05' had a problem with the dash melting, some thought this may have been caused by the windshield left up on hot days in the sun.

I don't know if this was ever proved or disproved but you may want to consider this if you diable your auto-retract.

This site is better: https://fjrtech.com/getdbitem.cfm?item=12 The 06 was very similiar. The picture below shows the plug disconnected (circled in red). The one it is connected to has no slack so it was difficult to pull on. I used a pair of needle nose vise grips to hold the connector while I used a small screwdriver to release the clip. The release is on the other connector at the front edge of the one pictured. Just push against the other connector and it came free.

Most bikes with shields can melt the dash when the light's just right. It's been a known issue on Wings for nearly 10 years. It's not the light passing through like a magnafying glas, but reflecting off like a mirror. That means usually when the bike is parked facing away from the sun and the head reflects off the concave inner surface and focuses on the dash from the inside. A rag on the dash, an old t-shirt over the shield, or a half cover like the Tour King can all be quick and inexpensive ways to prevent problems.

Disabling the auto-park may or may not, since the angle of the sun is affected by time of year, slope of the bike where parked, and so forth.

If I'm in somewhere I can at least see the bike, I'll drape my jacket over the windscreen from the cockpit side. Has the added advantage of "hiding" the attached gizmo's (GPS, ipod, V1, etc) from prying eyes.
