Stolen in Newport Beach

My buddy got his 2006 GSXR stolen from his "secured" underground parking area yesterday.

At least he can go into just about any dealer and buy a new one once his insurance company pays up.

That bike is everything and more that the magazines rave about.

2006 red model if you see it show up on Craigslist or ebay or...?

Pretty sure the upper fairing on the right side mirror was still cracked from dropping it on a sandy road during the first week home (ouch). He talked about getting it fixed but I don't think he had done it yet.

There was a similar situation of a GSXR being stolen in northern california, and the owner posted on craigslist, and within a week, the bike was found. Maybe he should post it, and find out if he has any photos of it. Does he have any other mods?

We traded bikes a few weeks ago (His GSXR for my FJR) for about 100 miles.

Road some areas near Julian where you went today. (nice pictures)

That thing has telepatheic steering, you barely think of a lean/turn and you are there.

Scary fast too, I could see my license going away quickly :blink:

No mods, bike is bone stock, all that stood out to me was the cracked upper right fairing near the mirror mount

With cases like this...we should go back to the old ways....someone steals your mount...."hang them high"....something to be said for old school justice @ times....hell...take the wife & leave the ride....that would be less cruel....

It's not a bad touring mount either. Yesterday I rode it about 400 miles. It's a lot of fun. Great bike.

Looks just like that (above picture), all you have to do is crack the fairing near the mirror mount straight across to the windshield.

Oh, and add a small set of black frame sliders, I remember seeing those (thought they came standard)

Heh heh, dang, I took this just before I added the sliders.

Sorry about your friend's bike pawtracks that just sucks. I worry about this one all the time when it's in the work parking lot. I put a UV cover on it to help hide what it is but I've heard all these squidly bikes are very popular with the thieves.

Yeah, same circumstances drive these thefts as those for Harleys- the need for lots of spare parts and buyers who aren't overly concerned about where they come from.

Even though the sport bikers need is derived from having more bike than skilz, both types are still horse thieves ! :assassin:

You guys on your "sport tourers" seem to think everyone else is wrong in their choice of bikes.

The FJR is nice but it really is not the end all of bikes.

I don't think he said that all sporties (or Harley riders either) are lacking in skills or that they are all willing to buy stolen parts. There are certainly some out there who buy more bike than they can handle and need to replace parts after they break them.

I gave up on Harley ownership after having four stolen over the years despite ratcheting up the protection level each time.

Bad enough that you couldn't park them anywhere for 5 minutes and fully expect them to still be there when you came back, but when some low life's broke into the garage to get the last of them was the final straw. .

Young punks with minimum wage jobs who repeatedly wreck thier sportbikes and trailer trash Harley owning wannabe's without the where-with-all to fund their hobby are the main reason the theft rates for those bike genre's are so high. Unfortunately there are a lot of both. Others better heeled obtain thier parts legally.

A new Goldwing stands a good chance of turning to rust before getting stolen for resale, pretty much speaks for the demographics of the riders.

And I'd have both a sport bike and a Harley again in a hot minute if I wanted one. FJR ownership has nothing to do with my comments, I just hate a frickin thief.

Since theives are your intended target you better start a campaign to stop the sell of anything that is popular. Heck for that matter stop opening banks, stores, sports cars, stereo's, TV etc. You seem to be targeting the owners and not the thieves. I own a sport bike and if I damaged it I wouldn't have the first idea of who to go to get a stolen part.

The FJR is more bike for many on this board and yet I didn't see your statement include them.

MY end all point is Thieves are Thieves I don't care what bike, home, car, store whatever it is.

If a guy owned a scooter and damaged it and he was a low life thief he would steal yours to fix his plain and simple...

Sparky, for the most part FJR owners obtain replacement parts legally and I'm guessing the theft rate for an FJR is very low. Pretty much in the same demographic as the Goldwingers.

I was making a tongue in cheek comment about the sportbike 'skilz' vs. 'wants' of the Harley crowd. Lighten up Francis. And quit buying stolen parts if you're gonna feel guilty about it later

You might want to start thinking what crowds are doing this stuff. More than likely it is gangs, clubs organized crime that are doing this. Many may not even own bikes. They steal what is going to be able to be sold to people they know will buy them.

Many aren't even to fix broken bikes, many of these big liter bikes are stolen and used as race bikes to win other peoples bikes or money. That is why locks, chains etc are no obsticle, they don't care about the wheels they just want the engine.

Sparky, again I'm only guessing but I have to believe 50X as many sport bikes are stolen for crash damage as for blown engines. Else the Mafia warehouses would be stacked to the ceilings with undamaged, engine-less sportbike carcasses due to no market.

Again it comes back to the type of person that drives the market for stolen parts just to save themselves a buck. Pretty shortsighted of them as it puts their own bike at risk.

And no, I'm not saying that everyone that owns a Harley or sport bike is this type of person but obviously many are or the thieves wouldn't target them so heavily.

If someone knows there're getting too good a deal and doesn't ask the questions and buys anyway they're the part of the problem. Others are only too aware of whats up, don't give a damn and are most of the problem.

The latter group are worse than thieves cause they don't have the guts to suck it up and do without until they can afford to do it right. The 'naive' group isn't much better, mostly fooling themselves to salve their conscience.
