Autocomm or similiar? What do you use? Earplugs?

The only thing worse than hearing loss is vision loss. I'm almost deaf in one ear. I have constant tinnitus, ringing in the ears. Foam earplugs and helmet speakers don't work for me. The earplugs attenuate all sound, thus I hear is muffled. In-ear speakers, unless specifically designed for...

    Engine sound through headphones

Well, I tried a simple noise filter, and it did exactly nothing. Removed the little amp and all was well, until I plugged the ipod car charger into the glove box receptacle...noise again. FatNaked, are you talking about a ground loop isolator?

    Engine sound through headphones

Yeah, I thought about that after posting...but the whole point of the fused block and the items under the seat was to have them easily accessible. I'm going to try a power line filter, see if that solves the problem, meanwhile I'll just run it without the little amp, which doesn't do that...

    Engine sound through headphones

Since I can't ride it, I've been attempting some of the farkles I've read of here, and knew of on my own. I've got a problem perhaps someone can help solve. I added a fused power block per Warchile's plan (generally, I should say; i located mine under the seat. I sent the ground wire back to...

    Taming the beast

A'ight, I did it. Only busted one knuckle, only took two, no, three pieces of wahr to get the durn thing bent right. While I was at it I let the th'ottle sprang off a notch. The successful completion of the two tasks is clear proof that anyone can do this. I have no idea if it's going to...

    Taming the beast

Fred (or anyone), having read and reread all these posts, and others, and studied your photos of your throttle shim installation, I have several questions: 1. Is it your opinion that JUST the shim will resolve all (most) of the part-throttle issue? Or do you think the BM is also...

    Barbarian Jumper Mod on 06

If the BM works, and/or all the other mods work, all sort of, and the PCIII is not available and expensive and overkill, what about the Techlusion deal? Their propaganda implies you do no remapping, just plug the unit in and ride off, with your herky jerky problems solved. It's two hundred...

    Stereo idea shot down?

I've fought this problem for a couple of years, off and on, on my Goldwing. A choke coil did no good whatsoever. Ground loop isolators are expensive potential fixes. I spent the day yesterday (yes, the entire day, including not one but three trips to the local Shack for bits and pieces...I'm...

    What's Up With The FJR?

I've bumped around a number of motorcycle forums over the last few years. There's three general themes that run through all of them: 1. "THIS IS THE BEST BIKE IN THE WORLD!!!" 2. "THIS IS THE WORST BIKE IN THE WORLD!!!" 3 "I FIXED [insert random problem or farkle here] AND NOW THE BIKE...

    To Kill A Mockingbird

Get a loud fan, and run it in the bedroom. Pretty soon you won't be able to sleep without it.

    Electro Questions

The FJRTech article refers to asphalt loom available at NAPA stores, but the local store doesn't have it, and it's not on their web site. However, I found a source for it in various diameters. Can someone suggest the most useful size, from 3/16" on up, in 1/16" increments? 100 ft of the 3/16"...

    Electro Questions

THANKS, this is really a big help, exactly what I wanted. Being new to the FJR, i was unaware of the warchile articles.

    Electro Questions

Please forgive me if this has been asked a million times...I'm electrically challenged. Since I can't ride my bike, I mize well fiddle with it. I want to permanently install an Autocom unit and a little amp, under the seat. The battery/fuse block is in an inconvenient area, and routing wires...

    Goldwing v. FJR

Jeez, Mogan, the two you like the most!! If you're not familiar with the Wing, you can rent one lots of places, make for a nice long weekend, a lot cheaper than buying one and wishing you hadn't.

Tailbone Redux, I REALLY need some seat help

    Yah, I'd thought of that.

Tailbone Redux, I REALLY need some seat help

Hmm. It appears I am the witless foil of several brilliantbuttock posters. How does one juice a gerbil? And why? The well meaning suggestions are very appreciated. I am afraid the best advice is the worst: don't ride. I'll probably try cutting my seat.

Tailbone Redux, I REALLY need some seat help

I cracked my tailbone about a month ago, and it's not exactly getting better. I have a thing called an Aqua-Aire cushion with a cutout that is recommended over on the Goldwing boards, and it allows me to ride the Wing, but it's too wide to fit on the FJR seat. I picked the FJR up today after...

    New Owners change your oil

Dang. This is an excellent point. Those bikes are shipped in container ships, which go up and down in the waves. I bet the oil sloshes around enough to cause it to curdle. Would you put buttermilk in your engine? :o

    autocom and alternator noise filtering

Here you go, or go to Radio Something and get a similar bare wire GLI...it'll be bigger than these. https://www.electricalconnection.com/audio/noise-filters.htm I've tried the audio filter...didn't do anything. This is an ongoing problem with the Autocom and GL1800. I've been using battery...

    New Owners change your oil

Ah, nothing like a good pissing match about oil changes! I changed my oil the first time at 600 miles. It looked like new oil. There were no splooges. No metal filings. No gray stuff. Just clean oil. Same thing in the final drive. My penny is the engineers who designed the motor know a...
