What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

The more the cam chain stretches the more the valve timing goes out of spec. Same thing is true with push rod engines with cam chains. The CCT and the damper, the part the CCT pushes on, has the same part number from '03 to '09 on the FJR. When someone sends me their used CCT the only thing I...

What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

Yea, best replace than leave in such an important part that isn't doing it's job. I was thinking we could do better. Something with a ratchet that doesn't loose it's spring tension and give up the ghost.

What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

Good stuff...so...a new CCT is about $80 plus shipping. I'm not going to pull a perfectly good CCT out of my bike. Some one PM me, get my address, and send me your worn out, useless CCT. I will make a print of it, something that any one who deals with this stuff will understand, and find a...

What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

Who said cam chains don't stretch?

What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

My FJR has 8,600 miles so I won't be getting in there soon but if someone wants to send me their old CCT I will take dimensions, make a sketch and send it out to what ever suppliers I can find, or you can think of, for a ratcheting CCT. As long as it ratchets I don't see a problem with the...

What's the OEM spec for replacing cam chain?

According to my 1'st gen owners and shop manual, there is no mention of the cam chain tensioner or cam chain in periodic maintenance. As far as replacement the shop manual says the following: 1. Check: • timing chain 1 Damage/stiffness → Replace the timing chain and camshaft sprockets as a...

    Cure for Speedo Error?

One of the main reasons I like to drive with my GPS is LEO's like to use the "your speedo may be off" angle. I want the LEO to know that I know how fast I was going. I use the same GPS between 4 bikes and 2 cars.

    hornet deer horn

Don't waste your time with it. A Sheriff was killed a week ago by an elk that he hit while driving high speed with all his lights and sirens on in his cruiser. A witness saw the Sheriff go by in full song moments before the inpact. https://www.komonews.com/news/53632167.html

Dunlop Roadsmart Tires Group Buy thru Aug 30th, 2009

Junior from Cycle City just called me. He took my order and the tires will be shipped to me Monday. I should have them this week. Best group buy I've been involved in.

Dunlop Roadsmart Tires Group Buy thru Aug 30th, 2009

"Give me some feedback..." Excellent Trent! I e-mailed my commitment for Package B. The short turnover time is good for me.

Dunlop Roadsmart Tires Group Buy thru Aug 30th, 2009

Thanks Trent. These guys sell Pirelli's and Avon's. Maybe we could do Roadsmart rears and Strada or Storm fronts? I'd go for either.

Gen1 Windscreen tuning block lessons learned

I installed tuning blocks today. It's amazing how a little spacer can change the personality of a motorcycle. Really nice. The center bar that the tuning block screws screw into is aluminum or aluminum alloy. Some how I got the impression that it was steel. So non-magnetic stainless steel...

    Tire Group Buy research...

Count me in if we can do this fairly soon. Edit: I got in on Trent's group buy (I have 8,600 miles on the original '05 tires) and won't be needing tires for a while.

    Possible drawback to PR2's?

I've spent more hours than it's worth reading about PR2's. People's opinions vary so wildly that it doesn't sound like they are talking about the same tire. Some stores have been out of front PR2's for a couple of months now. My guess is Michelin is trying different ways to construct the tire to...

Bug stains?! Surely, this can’t be.

Didn't work? OK, I got it! 50/50 bacon grease and Haitian Hank's Voodoo Chicken. Like this. Light three smudge pots and place around bike. Dip the HHVC in the bacon grease and smear it all over the front of your bike. Hold a smudge pot up and blow on it so the smoke mixes well with the grease...

    2005.5

OK, so mine was made in 1/05. Does that make it a late one? The only '05 recall I know of is the TPS, were there others?

Bug stains?! Surely, this can’t be.

The clay bar kits by Mothers and Meguiars are great at getting most everything off your paint. Of course they won't fill in holes. I'm a big believer in Meguiars NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0 but maybe you came across some special bugs.

Gen1 Windscreen tuning block lessons learned

When I do the spacer thing I will be using steel spacers or non-graded nuts, grade 8 flat head screws and blue Loctite. Coating the cap screws with Loctite should keep them from rusting at the threads and a little grease on the threads that stick out should allow you to unscrew them later. I'm...
