    engine sputtering in the rain

S4 is in a bad place for wet weather riding. It sits right there in the air flow coming in around the steering head. In addition to what Alan has suggested, I'd take a close look at that connector.

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

So, how does one fix this problem? How do you move it back the tooth it skipped?

Correct fork oil for 2008 ?

The Yamaha OEM fork oil is very light. My last replacement was with Belray 7w and it was way too heavy. Just switched to Belray 5w and it is much better. The problem is, as Fred said, just because a manufacturer prints a weight on the bottle doesn't mean you can depend on it to be consistent...

    Idling problem

Where are you located. Maybe, if there is a forum member close by, you can get some local help. If the throttle body servicing you're talking about is a throttle body sync, I'd be inclined to get it redone by someone else. You can get into a lot of trouble with those air bleed screws chasing...

    Fork Seal Warranty

My bad, I didn't explain it properly. The buzz was definitely an rpm relative engine vibration.

Front Install Order - Forks, Handlebars, Front tire

OK, dealing with removal and re-installation of the forks starts on page 4-73 of the service manual. The process goes on for a number of pages as it concerns total servicing of the forks. The manual calls for tightening the two lower bracket pinch bolts first and the doing the upper bracket...

Help extracting bolt with stripped head

You may be able to tap a 6mm allen wrench into there to get enough purchase to turn the bolt out. If it won't start, drill out the stripped hole a little. The 6mm allen should be a new one, with nice sharp edges, not one that's been heavily used and rounded over. If the allen won't work, your...

Powerband very different after minor mechanical work

I have tried on several occasions to blow out what appeared to be a reasonably clean air filter with not good results. In every instance, I suffered performance degradation like you're talking about. Putting a new filter in worked every time. Now I just replace the filter. You might try that...

Front Install Order - Forks, Handlebars, Front tire

The Service Manual has the correct order, But, you have it. If I remember correctly, there is also an order for tightening the fork pinch bolts, as well as the axle pinch bolts, The forks have to be in and tight before you torque the steering stem nut. Between the handle bars and the wheel...

Ride to Breakfast in Southern New Hampshire

Fred, It was actually warmer as I wended my way home. As I pulled into my street, the sun came out again. When I went outside an hour later, it was a beautiful day in the mid 60s. None the less, it was nice to get out for a few hours of pleasant companionship. Couple of pictures follow...

You may be right, Alan. I don't know because I just eat whatever they are serving when I get there. At any rate, 10AM ought to give us plenty of time.

Anyone successfully modified the stock windshield?

Covering the windscreen with masking tape, drawing your pattern on the tape and cutting (slowly to avoid melting) with a saber saw or jig saw works just fine. I cut mine while it was mounted on the bike, just used towels to cover everything under the screen.

Fred, That map has the restaurant in the wrong place. It's at the junction of 11 and 4A, right next to the Shell station we stopped at that day. Dan

I'll look tomorrow and see if the Mountain is open. The food in Blackwater is sensational, possibly the best home fries in the world.

Any interest in meeting at the Blackwater Junction Restaurant in Andover (maybe Wilmot) at 10AM for breakfast this Saturday?
