    I didn't take any pics of mine when I had it apart to re-solder, but I can guarantee there was no reflowing of the solder. I think the more likely answer is that the adhesion of the solder to the metal cup (reservoir) in the switch is poor. This could be caused by the material it is made out of...

    Don't be fearful. Just carry a pocketknife and the knowledge needed to hotwire the bike. And yes, Yamaha should do something about it at this point.

    I couldn't possibly know for sure, but from your description it sounds like a combination of cold tires, at least some water, moderate to significant lean angle (You said the bike felt like it was falling over), and because of all of those factors there wasn't enough traction left to deal with...
