Techmount Stem mount--will not allow a 36mm 6 point socket to slip over it

I purchased a Techmount Stem mount for my FJR and it will not allow a 36mm 6 point deep socket to slip over it. The OEM machined cap for the stem will allow the same 36mm to slip over it. The Techmount stem mount is the one that has a 1 inch rubber ball on it. The part number is 5-10998-1R . The...

How much play in rear wheel when engine is off and bike is in first gear??

And I was worried that I would get a sarastic response.... This new fangled EFI seems to make any lash or free play in the drive train more apparent than the old carbureted bikes. I guess that no one is hearing any muted noise ( very soft clang) when letting out the clutch-right...

How much play in rear wheel when engine is off and bike is in first gear??

I was wondering how much drive train free play should be at the tread of the rear tire when the engine is off and the bike is in first gear and on the center stand? I know that all shaft drive bikes will have some play in the drive train. What is normal for these bikes?? I am also noticing that...

Does Yamaha make a police bike version of the FJR??

Honda makes a police bike version of the ST1100 and ST1300--called the ST1100P and ST1300P. Same basic specifications as the regular/civilian version. Does Yamaha offer a police version of the FJR?? I think that it would make a very good police bike.

Glass headlight lens or plastic on 07??

It looks and sounds like the headlight lens is glass. Is the headlight lens glass or plastic??

The blessed "quick fastener"--how to remove without damage??

The Quick Fasteners on the inner panels have the plain pin in the center. I wish that the manual would have told me that the inner pin has to be depressed to remove. The shop and owners maunal leave a lot to be desired. For example-- the owner manual says that all of the inner panels have to be...

The blessed "quick fastener"--how to remove without damage??

I was removing the D inner panel on my fairing and there is a "quick fastener" that has to be removed. Has anyone come up with a way of removing one of these plastic quick fasteners that doesnt damage the panel it fastens or damage the plastic fastener itself??

Is it necessary to remove gas tank and air filter case to remove generator cover??

Thanks LP for the rely. Am I the only one that finds this 07 Yamaha Shop Manual confusing and imprecise?? And there is no master index in the back . For example--it goes into detail as to how to replace the inner fairing panels--and doesn't first tell you how to remove them!!

Is it necessary to remove gas tank and air filter case to remove generator cover??

I need to replace the generator cover and the shop manual for my 07 says that the gas tank and the air filter case must be removed first--before the generator cover has to be removed. Has anyone removed their generator cover and had to remove this other stuff?? Eyeballing it--it wouldn't seem...

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

d If you consider that the Concours will have the same engine as their ZX14 sport bike--and it has an advertised horsepower rating of + 190 horsepower @ crank(167 HP @ rear wheel dyno )--it isn't unlikely that the Connie will have ~ 170. And don't forget the variable timing camshaft--that...

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

Wait when the Concours 14 comes out--it too will be low emission/Euro 3 spec with cats and it will have very high horsepower--probably 170 or more horsepower. But one thing it wont have is-- sexy good looks!!

Fit and finish issue:gap below speedometer on 06/07

Yeah- the appearance is my only concern. The rest of the bike has very high fit and finish and it is just surprising that it is there. The battery panel isnt involved in this gap below the speedo. The battery panel is to the right of the two panels involved in this gap. These two panels are...

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

Aren't some of the liter/liter+ sport bikes running 300 degree duration advertised on stock cams?? I wouldn't think that idle concerns would be a big issue for the go-fast guys on the sport bikes. And large displacement allows more duration/lift while maintaining idle/low speed...

Fit and finish issue:gap below speedometer on 06/07

Yeah--there is a gap and I do see that finger that should interlace with the opposite panel. I was hoping that it would also lock to the opposing panel--but apparently it doesnt. Other than this gap--the rest of the bike is near perfect. I am just surprised that the Japanese didnt engineer this...

2007 Altitude Surging Problem - Members Wanted

2007A. 500 miles/several weeks old. Have riden it over a range of 5000 to 5600 feet above sea level. Never any surging at all--when warming up or at operating temperature.

Fit and finish issue:gap below speedometer on 06/07

I take it that your 06 doesnt have this gap in the two inner panels?? And it was the general fit and finish of the 84 FJ not just the dash that was almost perfect. And thanks for making me feel so old--1984 wasnt that long ago!! Huh??

Fit and finish issue:gap below speedometer on 06/07

Yamaha has always impressed me with their fit and finish on their motorcycles. I have expected Yamaha to always have a superior quality look to their motorcycles. I still remember the beautiful finish and fit on my 84 FJ1100 and 79 XT 500 (beautiful aluminum mirror polished finish on gas tank)...

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

The FMS doesnt list duration and lobe separation--just lift. I would agree that short duration and high lift would be the likely configuration. The WIDE torque band of this bike is unbelieveable!! Finally a ST with weather protection, luggage, and power and torque--with relative light weight...

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

Why not?? I am just interested in how Yamaha tuned the bike to get this extremely wide torque band---aside from the 1300CCs and relatively low weight.

What duration of lift for intake/exhaust??

Would anyone know the camshaft duration of lift/camshaft profile for the FJR??
