    Full system exhaust

Wow, I don't know what happened above. Sorry, I didn't mean to reprint so much of the other answers.

    Full system exhaust

Good explanation, but the primary issue is optimum velocity. Everybody forgets that power is about flow, and exhaust gases slow down in a larger pipe than they do in a smaller one. The key is to achieve optimum velocity for the size engine and desired rpm range. If velocity slows down you lose...

    Full system exhaust

    That was always my assumption.

    Full system exhaust

Well, I'll chime in with my 2 cents. My beef with the Holeshot header is that the primary pipe diameters are larger than stock and there is no crossover pipe/common plenum. This results in reduced low end torque from the larger pipe diameter and a louder exhaust with less flow capability...

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

I agree with Fred completely on this one. Maybe the dealership has the best of intentions synching on race fuel, but that points to a lack of technical knowledge about engines in general. It's like some dealers telling customers you have to run premium fuel in the FJR because it's a high...

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

Shawn, who did you speak to at Danbury? I told them about the recall before it came out. Tony the parts manager knew this, Dave, the "defacto" service manager knew about this as well. I can assure the owner would want to know if disinformation is being given out. Let me know, Chris.

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

Shawn, Who is your dealer? I live close to Danbury. I don't think you're dealing with Danbury Powersports because I know they know the proper procedure. Try them and you'll be pleased. Chris

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

The red stripe signifies the clear plastic shipping protecter is still on. The instructions say to peel it off when the job is completed. For the previous posts where dealers are quoting 4 hours- that's scary. I can see an hour and a half if you're not careful centering the punch for drilling...

    Fork Cap Cover?

I hate to say this, but did you loosen the upper triple clamp completely before trying to remove the cap? If you didn't, the cap will appear to be overtorqued. The caps are not that tight from the factory as they rely on the o-ring to seal.

Gen I FJR1300 Shop manual usability

I always order a factory shop manual when I buy a new bike. Always use them, and have never regretted buying one.

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

As a member of the "one key" crowd I'm pleased that this is their solution. Now I just have to wait for that switch portion before I install the Heli triple clamp sitting on my bench. No point in doing the work twice; the bike's not going anywhere with this New York winter.

Gen I and Gen II headpipes are interchangeable

Ah, the dangers of drinking while posting. Let that be a lesson to us all.

Gen I and Gen II headpipes are interchangeable

I posed a question months ago about being able to use a Gen I headpipe on a GenII. Today I found out they are interchangeable. I have a nicely decatted '05 headpipe that I wanted to install on my '08. It bolted right up and I couldn't find any measurable difference between the two. Although...

    FJRF003.1: Ignition Switch

I agree. A big thanks to all who made this an issue with NHTSA. Now I will wait to put my Heli triple clamp in so it can be done at the same time. Let's hope that the recall is for a full set of locks so we don't wind up with a key for the ignition and another for the bags. That would be...

    Ignition fix

Paypal sent this morning for my second one to put in my friend's '06. Thanks again for all the hard work, and all the best for the holiday season. Chris.

    Which battery?

I have the original in my '05 but it sits on a tender when not being ridden and has the benefit of a heated/air conditioned garage. I do test it from time to time by leaving it off the tender for 24 hours and seeing how strong it starts. So far, so good, but I have had generally good results...

    Have just got to vent

As a prosecuting attorney myself if I can't understand why someone is charged I look into it with the arresting officer. If I still am not satisfied, it gets dismissed. My job is not to cover mistakes made by the police. You did not give any specifics on your charges or what you pled to. Did...

    Battery Relocation

You also may want to consider the additional heat the battery will be exposed to sitting behind the engine and under the seat. Yes, bikes were built for many years with batteries placed there, but the FJR does produce a bit more heat than most. And heat definitely shortens battery life. I...
