    I hate hurricane weather!!!

X marks the spot. You didn't do anything to incur divine wrath, did you?

    I hate hurricane weather!!!

TS Fay sat on us for awhile & we got about 10 inches of rain. Then, like Montezuma's revenge, she struck again a little over a week later: standing water led to the mother of all mosquito crops. (I personally lost at least a quart of blood while camping over the Labor Day weekend.) Those of...

    Throttle cable lubrication

I use Cable Life aerosol, the little red squirter stick (no jokes), and a towel.

    Gear oil or snake oil?

do a forum search for "whale ****." It's the secret ingredient. I think Yamaha makes its interns collect it.

    We Lost A Great Friend

TWN/Tim, You have no idea how much joy your posts brought to me. When I was having a bad day, I'd turn to your wit & humor for solace. My deepest condolences to his family and to the rest of us who will miss him terribly. Ride in peace, Tim.

Fish, House Guests, and Tropical Systems

Capt. Bob: News blip at the bottom of the TV screen said that there was some local street flooding in Tallahassee. wfooshee: If you do go for a ride, watch for the wind gusts that appear from nowhere.

Everyone who needs rain: be careful what you wish for. Along with the rain will come wind & tornado watches.

    reflections on first overnight ride

I made my own out of a $10 "Cabbie Special" bead seat cover from Walmart. On long trips I rotate beads, surgical doughnut (inflatable air donut), and gel pad with the stock seat. My posterior prefers variety.

    Did anyone else notice

Ummm, I think that's the first duty listed in a PR/Marketing person's job description. And I don't mean to paint all PR/Marketing departments & personnel with the same brush.

    Did anyone else notice

Here are the caveats before you read further: 1) I wasn't at NAFO--but wish I had been 2) I don't know what went down besides Yamaha not showing and not bothering to even send word that they weren't going to show 3) Yamaha does read this forum. 4) I have my own ax to grind with Yamaha the...

    Anti-seize Lubricant

I use a very small amount on the threads of my plugs & wipe the opposing threads at each change to prevent gunkification. I also put a thin coat of dialectic grease on top before installing (even though most of it gets transferred to the rubber holder in the socket).

    ?????? for current FJR owners

Err, at the risk of quoting This Is Spinal Tap, isn't there a risk of falling into the "But ours go to eleven" trap? Gearing is fine in 5th. If it's about keeping up the the Japanese and Bavarian Joneses, why bother? Anyone remember the Honda CB900? Why not demand a high and low range to go...

Fish, House Guests, and Tropical Systems

Actually it's day 4 of Fay dumping on me & the FJR. So much so, in fact, that I did something I feel very ashamed of: for the first time since starting this job, I rode in a car to work. 3 times. I feel so dirty. Even the 7 inches of rain we've had in the last 24 hours hasn't washed away the...

    Question about Cold Tires

Among the many other factors, tire compound does play a role. I rode my PR2's in 20-30 degree weather about 10 days this past spring commuting and had no pucker moments. Granted, I had all of 4 corners to experiment with & those were at 30-40 mph.
