    Tire Plug / Re-Plug Advice

I didn't think you were supposed to apply rubber cement onto the worms; just patches. In any case, I had the same issue last year on a new tire and I was able to pull out a good portion of plug before installing a new one. But, my problem with the slow leak was due to the fact I reamed a hole 90...

    Aftermarket Horn Install

If you Google "Stebel vs Wolo" you'll find all sorts of info ranging from '...Wolo is made/owned by Stebel', '...Wolo is a Chinese knockoff', "...there is no appreciable difference in sound", to "....Stebels don't last very long".

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Thanks. This was the info I was looking for. I am going to order the Penske from KFG tomorrow and have them install it Friday before Tech Day. I will also get their fork kit and have them do that as well. I'm sure I will be happy with what's done. I have a hotel booked for Friday 13th a little...

    Aftermarket Horn Install

I thought I would take this opportunity while doing some extensive maintenance on my bike to post some pics of my very own farkle. I've benefited on countless occasions from others taking the time to upload their mods, it's only fair I do the same; as seemingly trivial in comparison. Like many...

Wee vs. Vee - From an FJR perspective

I wouldn't mind some advice on buying an off-road bike. I live in the mountains on Vancouver Island BC where I have access to loads of logging roads and trails. And, as much as I love my FJ, I don't find myself using it hop-and-stop type Sunday drives - too big and too hot. So, I started looking...

    Honda Moly 60

I recently went to several stores to find this after the high recommendations on FJRTech. Of course, I couldn't find it. I ended up using MolySlip 'cause it was the more expensive at the auto parts store. When comparing, I read on the label that MolySlip was in a "Bentone" base rather than...

    Split: Off-Topic about Octane

I suppose you could have taken that context. What I was trying to say was, the higher octane gasoline (i.e. Shell V-Power) which has no ethanol in it has more energy per volume than it's lower octane counterpart, despite the fact it (the lower octane) contains octane boosting ethanol. In other...

    Split: Off-Topic about Octane

I run Shell Premium almost without exception, for reason #11: https://www.shell.ca/en/products-services/shell-for-drivers/fuels/shell-vpower/faq.html My understanding as well is that ethanol releases less energy than gasoline so in this case, hi-octane does produce more power. I also find the...

Thanks for the feedback. Any insight on Racetech vs. GP and what springs I would need?

    Valve cover issues

Well, what started out as some advice on suspension and a seasonal fluid change has morphed into a near teardown and rebuild. So far I have changed a tire, changed the brakes, painted some worn parts, removed the relay arm, swing arm, the U-Joint, the stands, all the plastic, changed the...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

That sounds like a great plan and I am all in to do it. I was a little hesitant when it was first mentioned as I figure it was a big job and didn't want to come acrossas someone bringing my bike to a social gathering just to save a few $$$. Actually, I would like to learn the mechanics to...

    Removing the Relay Arm

This is not entirely true. Perhaps someone else has pointed this out already but for future reference, the center stand does not have to come out. If you remove the forward most pair of bolts, the entire stand can then pivot down and free up enough room remove the relay arm bolt. Unfortunately...

Relay arm, anyone ever remove it?

Perhaps someone else has pointed this out already but for future reference, the center stand does not have to come out. If you remove the forward most pair of bolts, the entire stand can then pivot down and free up enough room remove the relay arm bolt. Unfortunately -as has been pointed out...

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Hey, JP. Nice to see someone else in the same boat. I have never even heard of the banjo thingy but will look into it for myself as well. I've written to Barry at KFG and he has pretty much told me on the Penske as well. It's really not a helluva lot more than a Gen III shock but from what I...

    Final Drive 4 Acorn Nuts-Torque

Ironically, I did this on mine yesterday. The U-Joint area really needed cleaning and the foot peg was easy to remove. I noticed the bolts there were corroded and also in need of TLC. I did not remove the 'other' shield; no need to.

I wonder if those are the same guys that designed the bolts on the center stand.

1st Century maintenance, suspension upgrade and general maintenance advice

Thanks for that. I did however get lost in one small detail: you said you run yours about 3 mm longer but also said you get 12mm additional shock length if you order it. Does that mean its adjustable throughout that range, i.e. 0-12mm? Does the 8983 with the extra 12mm drop into the same spot...
