    Lost idle

Hopefully they got the valve clearances right after all that re-work. One might expect they had to use a lot of different shims.

Vibration Survey for Owners of More Than One FJR1300

Engine vibration on the FJR has very little to do with the engine air flow. Syncing the air flow can have a small, marginal effect on vibration. Most of the vibration is just a built-in feature of the engine. They tried to control, limit the vibration with the inclusion of the two balancing...

Vibration Survey for Owners of More Than One FJR1300

"Throttle body sync works only to smooth the idle and at about 1500rpms+/-.. Above that range has not any effect in vibrations..My opinion..." I can't agree with this. After I make adjustments I always note a lessening of vibration all the way up to 3.5K rpm. I know how well I've done by how...

Vibration Survey for Owners of More Than One FJR1300

I'd like to compare a '16 with my '04. I believe I would appreciate the lower engine speed on the '16. My only gripe about vibration is at 70+ highway speeds. I don't believe that would be an issue on the '16. I use my cruise whenever I can. Using it, vibration is not much of an issue...

    Driveline Slack/Play

My '04 FJR has a lot of drive-line play. Don't know if it's increased much since new. Seems like it's changed. I measured it today in 1st gear using a plumb-bob dangling from the left footrest. The front-to-rear play in the drive-line was 2.5 inches. May be typical. Driveshaft U-joint...

    1st & 5th disappear in dash indicator

A poor design by Yamaha. A tacked-on feature which wasn't well thought out.

    What's this hose?

Would expect it to be idling too fast. The hot coolant flowing through that wax motor mechanism slows down the idle. They must have capped off the coolant hose connection ports on the radiator and the coolant manifold above the engine.

    time for new battery?

I'm using this inexpensive battery. I recommend it. https://www.staabbattery.com/product/mcc-mf/14B-BS.html You have to install the included electrolyte. Very easy to do.

    time for new battery?

Same thing happened on mine before I got new batteries. New battery always fixes it. I would check and tighten the battery terminal connections first. If they get slightly loose you can experience these symptoms. The hot start is the most difficult for the system.

Max weight capacity for side cases?

10 kilograms. Weight limit is shown on warning sticker on inside of lid.

Won't Restart When Hot (Not FJRF011)

Fuel injection during startup is affected by coolant temperature. The primary injection compensation variable during start-up is coolant temp. When you shut down a hot engine the coolant temperature at the sensor continues to rise for a short while since coolant flow has abruptly stopped. If...

    FJR 2005 Neutral Switch Location?

This is the switch. It threads into the back of the engine. It is a simple, one wire device. The wire connector just plugs onto the single, spark plug like connector. https://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-3GB-82540-01-00.html You can easily add a simple momentary push-button switch...

    FJR 2005 Neutral Switch Location?

Look at the left side of the engine. Follow the shift pedal linkage up to where it enters the left side the engine. Just below where the shift rod enters the left side of the engine there is a triangular shaped engine mount bracket with rounded points. The neutral switch is at this elevation...

    2007 AE No brake lights

Why have a brake relay energized all the time except when the brakes are applied? Seems a bit strange. Definitely not energy efficient. Maybe some "fail safe" safety advantages. The always energized accessory box solenoid is another questionable energy hog. A constant 7 watt drain.

    Neutral Switch, Gen 1

https://www.boats.net/parts/detail/yamaha/Y-3GB-82540-01-00.html Is there a mechanical switch inside the body of this component? Or, is the tip just spring loaded and the switching is the physical touching of the tip to the shift drum? This device appears to be quite reliable since I've seen...

What's the buzz, tell me what's a happening

The handlebars are attached to the upper bracket. So how can one isolate the upper bracket from the frame as much as possible? Install a rubber washer below the bracket and above the bracket. The bracket sits atop the steering stem lock washer. Put something between the lock washer and upper...

What's the buzz, tell me what's a happening

Might be interesting to see if a horizontal linkage between the two handlebars might reduce the vibration amplitude. The Kawa Versys has vibration dampeners on the handlebar. It's a twin so there's lot of shaking. They rubber mounted the handlebar and the engine to ameliorate the shaking...

CM1a-D-12V Relays no longer available (fan, headlight, etc)

Easy enough to add a diode to the coil circuit. I've installed diodes on all relays I've added to my FJR. A diode does delay the drop out of the relay a bit. For almost all applications that's not a problem.

    Is Cruise Control Consistent

On my Audiovox setup I use the horn button to cancel the cruise. I grab the throttle to maintain speed before canceling. I like the seamless transition to "cruise off" when I'm slowing down entering a town, etc. No upset of the bike with the brakes or clutch. Used a relay but I like to play...
