    Suspension Book

I've developed a renewed interest in tuning my suspension. Since I like to read and understand something before diving in, I bought "Sportbike Suspension Tuning" by Andrew Trevitt last week. The book is well written and easy to understand - it provides a solid understanding of what the...

    05 ABS FRONT SENSOR BOLT

Finally got out today. Both front and rear ABS work just fine with the Lowe's bolts. Just went out to see if the OEM bolt will stick to a magnet, couldn't find it to save my life!

Best Place for Tires in NO VA

Jon T, I appreciate your comments. I had heard that Blalock's had fixed a ticker they sold and the owner was happy with the results; glad you confirmed that. I need a valve check, actually needed it done 11k ago, and I'll most likely go there. It is hard to find a place with folks you can...

    05 ABS FRONT SENSOR BOLT

    For those interested, the bolt size is: M8 x 1.25 x 16. I found 2 at Lowe's for $1.31.

Best Place for Tires in NO VA

I agree with the Coleman's comment, enough said. I've never had any work done at Blalocks, but have heard good things. I stopped by the new place in Manassas, forget the name, and it's a Yami only bike shop which is good. I asked for a guesstimate on a valve check and they came back with $637...

    Upgrading Fork Springs

I need someone knowledgeable out there to verify my "new" math. I recently changed my fork oil and mistakenly measured the oil with the forks extended - should do it with them compressed. So, I think I got that right. But I started to redo my entire calculation from my initial install and I'm...

    05 ABS FRONT SENSOR BOLT

Thanks BkrK12, I didn't even think about the back one being the same size, I'll do that.

    Summer jacket recommendations?

I've got the Olympia AST for fall/winter/spring and just bought the Olympia Airglide (??) for summer - the mesh jacket. I like the quality of the Olympia's - my one complaint on the mesh jacket is the roaming shoulder armor. The mest liner is not attached at the shoulders and the armor is in a...

    05 ABS FRONT SENSOR BOLT

Well, I finally lost a fastener - the allen head bolt that holds the front ABS sensor on an 05. Anybody happen to have an extra! Thanks.

    Changed My Fork Oil Today

exskibum - great idea! I had problems removing those nuts the first time I did it, wish I had thought of your idea before grabbing the top of the rod with pliers - worked out ok, but was certainly risky.

    FJR firm thoughts on usability

I'm always interested when folks compare the FJR with other bikes. The FJR is my first and only bike - I've test ridden a couple of BMWs, but I only really know the FJR. I have an 05 and other than the heat issue, I don't have any complaints (and don't really have a complaint about the heat)...

    TBS - Tool

I last did ol' Matilda at 4k miles, now have 37k - anyone in N. VA have a carb tune tool that's willing to share!

    Upgrading Fork Springs

I appreciate the replies. Let me talk my way through this. Spring rate is probably the most important thing to get right. After Lee Park's Total Control class and suspension checks, I went to Race Tech and bought a set of springs. Per the tool they have to determine the right rate for you...

    heat fix kits

This is always an interesting subject. I have an 05 and never realized I had a heat problem until I read this forum - the power of suggestion! I've gone thru the entire range of heat fixes: insulated under the tank (only mod that remains); cromeit fix; stuffed pipe insulation around the tank...

    Upgrading Fork Springs

It's been three years since I changed my springs and I figured it was time to change the fork oil - so I did. Here's a question; I'm not much on fluid mechanics, tell me, what is the effect of more or less fork oil - which makes the ride "harder," and which makes if "softer?" Which is easier to...

    Being cool and seen

Funny thread. I've got the yellow Olympia AST and just bought the Yellow mesh jacket. I care more about drivers seeing me than I do about whether other folks like my jacket or not. The only thing I don't like about the mesh jacket is that the shoulder armor floats around. Lorie and I are...

Military Sport Bike Rider (MSRC) class

I took it on 9 Apr. While I wished I was on one of the 600s, it wasn't a problem. Heck, one Marine had a stretched Z14 and did fine.

Group Ride from Northern VA/Wash DC area (WMA) to EOM?

Lorie and I are going to head down there on Fri and return Mon. I'm riding and Lorie is driving. Will keep an eye out here for updates.

    TachOmeter Burp

    Will do, thanks.

    TachOmeter Burp

Left work the other day and as I was on the on-ramp to 95 I look at my tach and it reads ~200 rpm! Get on 95 and at 70mph it reads 1500rpm - should read ~4100. Figure I might get to use my YES before it expires. Get off 95 and stop at a light, needle burps, from then on the tach is just fine...
