FJR 1300 Comparison To Sports Bikes

All of y'all make very good observations. I've put 15,000 miles on my FJR in a year, and have learned that the model requires a certain amount of self-retraining. Like Kromm, I came off a V-Max. Both bikes make you feel instantly like the king of the freeway. But while I felt almost...

    Happy Birthday sonicspeed

I drank a beer in your honor, sonicspeed. Hell, I drank several.

Black Foam Sponge Under Oil Filter

Oh, and don't park the sonofabitch in the grass, or it will fall over. Benairdunnat. (See last post.) phil

    Can't trust center stand, either.

Being the good father I am, I parked my FJR under a shade tree in the back yard today to change the oil/filter. Only the best for my bike . . . . Mobil 1 - 15W50. Pulled 'er up on the center stand for safety, and to help read the oil level window accurately, don't ya know. Got the new filter...

    Bikes, Blues, and Barbecue--Sept 24-28, 2008

I arrived too late at the festivities to get a comlimentary ride on the '09 V-Max. I talked to a guy who just got off it. He said they allowed him to ride as quick as he wanted, so he got up to about 120. He says the handling of the new model didn't seem all that different from his '02...

    Michelin Pilot Road-2

Jeff's findings on the PR2 also reflect my experience with just under 8000 miles on mine. The front is wearing faster than the rear. And the rear has been a little scary on road snakes and similar road surface variations. Am currently running a Pilot Power 2, due to a nail in the PR2, but...

Followed another rider to work today.

I recently told my wife that, when I get too old to handle the FJR, I'd get a Mazda Miata. But maybe something like the Burgman will save my 45-year riding "career" after all. phil

Followed another rider to work today.

I didn't see a name on it. From behind it looked like a sport bike. But I could tell the rear tire was more narrow, and the mirrors were tucked-in close to the fairing. I freaked out when I saw his knees together on the floorboard. He just waved and blew on by, headin' toward Texas.

Followed another rider to work today.

Had to work on Sunday, and rode my FJR the 32 miles. Crossing the overpass to get on 4-lane U.S. 69, I saw another bike go by at a fairly brisk clip. I thought, "I'll just catch this sucker, and use him for a front door in case of any radar traps this morning." Well I had to get up to 100 to...

    Kneelers

I agree 100%. Found out several months back that by moving forward on the Russell saddle: (1) My arms are relieved of some of the stretching to reach the grips, which is a problem many of us have mentioned. And my shoulders are more relaxed because of this. (2) The pressure on the back of my...

    Whatever happened to Westerns ?

I received this a few days ago on an E-mail. It's the best presentation I have ever seen on the old cowboy stars. Includes people I had forgotten about, and even a couple that I never heard of. And ya gotta love the Statler Brothers music. Thanks for sharing with everbody!

    Camping tents and stuff

Son Eric and I got by easily on a 28-day motorcycle camping trip, with a 7' x 7' nylon tent with rain fly, which I bought from Sears many years ago. Spray that sucker down with CampDry before the first long trip. Don't forget a ground cloth to place under the tent.

    Bikes, Blues, and Barbecue

As it appears now, I will be there on Thursday and Friday, with son Eric, whom some of you met at NAFO. We are not sure at this time about Saturday, as we will be commuting out of Fort Smith daily. The Thursday thing is because we will have a shorter line to stand-in, to get to ride the 2009...

    Self cancelling blinker

I received an E-Mail from Premier Cycle Accessories this week about this product. They state that it will work on the FJR with no install problems. Is anybody here using it, and are you satisfied? The price at Premier is $109, and includes a lot of optional features.
