    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

So after lots of research, phone calls, and price quotes, and spending a week up in NorCal on the coast and remembering how many amazing roads there are in the area, I've decided to organize an event in the Fort Bragg area for next year instead of Yosemite. I figure if anyone wants to visit...

    Storage suggestions in San Fransisco

I just posted up about four different places that seem to be secure that could help in this situation.

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

Okie dokie... here are my thoughts... I'll set dates for YFO for June 15-18, 2023 in Mariposa, CA. I'm going to set up a block of rooms at the Mariposa Lodge for whoever may want to or is able to book there. If the price is too steep for anyone, they are welcome to find lodging that fits...

    EOM 2022 Location Discussion

Not in that particular location but it has been held in several others (i.e. Maggie Valley). ;)

If it's the one Fairlaner organized for GOTC, I believe it was at The Sonora Inn. Prices are about the same as Mariposa and current reviews for the hotel do not bode well. Hotel Lumberjack has better reviews but prices are equivalent to Mariposa Lodge.

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

No clue... given we're over a year out at this point, I've gotten a lot of "that sounds cool!" comments but nothing solid for the most part. The first year we did YFO in 2017 we had over 80 people, last year was about 15... so somewhere around that. ;)

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

Well, those prices are for 2022 and who the heck knows what they'll be charging in 2023. I'm not in the mindset to try and organize a bunch of Airbnb's all over the Sierras and put my credit card on the line... are you? ;) Guess that idea falls under the "find your own lodging" and then try to...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

G, you're not a wet blanket at all... I totally understand the issue of costs. Not sure if anyone else is willing to jump in here as it's been mostly crickets in response to what I've found and reported which makes me think that folks aren't on board at that price. Not really sure how else to...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

I guess if folks still wanted to go to Yosemite, I could just post a date and let folks find their own accommodations to fit their budget. Then plan a group dinner on Saturday night somewhere. The town of Mariposa isn't that big so even if folks were spread out at different hotels, it wouldn't...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

Yes really. Believe me, George, I was as shocked as you were... I checked at least 15 different places all over the Sierras near Yosemite... that price was one of the lowest I could find. Guess they're trying to make up for lost time from the past couple of years or something. The only other...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

Well, kiddies, I have spent several hours this past week talking with various hotels, getting quotes, and have it narrowed down to what I think will be the best place in Mariposa. The only catch is that June is peak season in the Sierras and the prices are through the roof everywhere. The...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

I totally know of what you speak... I hit one of those rocks when riding it a couple of years ago and totally fubar'd one of my front tires... no cell service up there so a kind cage driver gave me a ride down to the bottom of the hill to call a tow truck... definitely something to know if...

    YFO 2023 - Gauging interest

And a bit further north of San Diego is 2/Angeles Crest Hwy, 74/Palms to Pines Scenic Hwy, 18/Rim of the World Hwy, Tujunga Canyon Rd (lots of other connecting roads too) and over to the west are a bunch of canyon roads Tuna Canyon Rd (a one-way road which is a ton of fun), Latigo Canyon Rd...
