    Starter relay "laughs" at me

I didn't have to use a block or remove the boots, just made sure they were loose, put the TB into the boots at a 45 degree angle facing upwards (bottom of TB touching boot), and then pushed in while straightening out the angle. They have always just slid right in. Hold them in place while...

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

The trick is, don't be afraid to take stuff apart. For example, when I was going to put the throttle body assembly back in, I couldn't pull the coolant line far enough to make it connect securely. I spent 15 minutes fighting it before finally saying, "screw it" and removing the left cowling to...

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

It really wasn't much trouble actually. I've had her apart many times, throttle bodies and air box aren't that difficult. Hour at most to take apart, hour to put back together. But, i just wanted her running while weather is still nice. If it needs rebuilt, it'll happen in winter.

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

I pulled the starter out, reconnected the battery, touched the starter to ground, hit starter switch. Starter purred. Reassembled everything (I have a superstition never to try something when things are halfway put together - weird, I know), and she started right up like there was never a...

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

OK, finally had time to tear into the bike this morning and removed the starter. Before completely disconnecting it, I decided to reconnect the battery and crank it, and the starter spins wonderfully. No weird noises, no grinding, just what seems like a very healthy starter. Will button it back...

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

I used a pair of needle nose pliers. No problem getting current through those. If I push start the bike and ride it, wouldn't that do anything to unjam a finicky starter? I'm mechanically inclined and am a quick learner, but I don't know anything about anything until I have to tear it apart...

    Starter relay "laughs" at me

Sorry for my extended absence. It's been a while since I've been here and I hate to be the kind of person that just shows up when I have a problem, but I have to be one of those guys right now. Out of nowhere, on Sunday, when I went to start the bike, I would push the starter button and would...

    Rider shot in the back

I had a bad caterer one time, so I hate all caterers now. I have had bad experiences with waiters a few times, so I hate all waiters now too. My garbage man left some garbage on the street after emptying my trash can, so they all must not give a **** about their job either, so I hate them all...

    It's a Dog Pile!

They tried doing it with cats, but the videographer and director killed themselves in frustration. Dogs rule!

    2nd Gear Problem

When I had my bent shift fork/worn gear dog issue, it took 3 weeks to get all the parts and another week or two to install everything in my garage. Same issue though, parts on back order. The good thing is, you will have updated guts for smoother shifts.

So where do YOU park in public lots?

Depending on the state, the lines between private and public are blurred. In many states, if the parking lot is open to the public like malls, large stores, etc, many traffic laws are still applicable. In order to become "private property" as it relates to the enforcement of traffic laws, there...

    this will make you laugh!

I don't buy it. There isn't a security camera system out there that automatically puts in music to the Sting like that! :)

    Santa Barbara to Portland

It's hit and miss depending on the day/week. The mountain pass at the Cali/Oregon border is frequently closed due to snow/ice. Regardless of snow/ice, EXPECT rain and lots of it....it is Oregon after all.

2007 ABS won't start -- loose ECU connector?

Glad I could help. I spent countless frustrated hours trying to figure out why mine was intermittently working.

Hardest two hours I worked since starting this job

When I did mine, I just put the motor on a car jack and lifted it right into place. Took two people to guide it in, but it wasn't that difficult once I had the second pair of hands. I bent the same dust cover you did though!

2007 ABS won't start -- loose ECU connector?

I had a similar experience that bothered me for months. I was able to trace mine to the Barbarian Jumper mod. When I pulled a pin, and replaced it, I apparently didn't seat it properly. The connection of that one pin was sporadic. Once I identified it, I haven't had the problem since. Don't...

    Why can't I post?

I looked and looked and looked, but I can't find that big red box! How come I don't have one of them there big red boxes? :)

getting the bike back from having four recalls done

You forgot the 17mpg instant fuel economy electronic readout fix too. I think that was a recall. Or was it just a "we'll replace if you complain" issue?
