I concur with the sticking brake pedal. I recently saw this same error on my 2007 AE when my rear pedal switch was sticking. I think this is compounded by a low or dead battery, hence the clicking when trying to start. If not for the dead battery he should have been able to get it started...

Yes, this exactly. A clutch soak did not solve it for me, though it did feel buttery smooth. :) Lowering the RPMs was the only fix.
