Had a minor incident on my way home this morning and now my bike has a broken nose, black eye, and a compromised front brake line. rear seems ok, but I'm not riding her 22 miles home with so many unknowns. Only looks like the headlight assy and cowl are damaged (apart from the brake line), but I'd rather haul it. Does anyone in the area have a low-deck trailer that would be willing to help me get her home? I have a pickup (no hitch) and ramp, but I'm not sure I can get it high enough.

Am going to be on the move shortly, so will call or text me if you are willing to help. 6oh2 seven5four oh8nine3.

Another good luck and glad you are able to write for help. You may want to ping beemerdons and see if he can coordinate something to help you. While Beemer isn't so coordinated he can still make connections with other coordinated riders.

Loading a porky FJR onto the bed of a PU scares the bejezus out of me While waiting for help go view Youtube vids of people loading motorcycles onto a PU and you will see that it can go wrong, very wrong, very fast. A $$U-Haul$$ truck with a low lift height works, just don't tell 'em what you are loading because they sometimes get strange when you tell them you are loading a gas filled container onto an enclosed trailer.

(Call a dealer for a lift? AAA tows bikes. Got AMA?)

I was telepathically sending it to BD anyway. I figured with his contacts (and track record) he'd be the one to know who can transpo a not-quite-roadworthy scooter if anybody does around here. Turns out U-Haul has a motorcycle trailer that's only $15 for 6 hours and I have a buddy with a jeep that has a hitch and is wired (u-haul requires that and for a jeep, has to be hard-top). Will take care of it as soon as my guy's off work in a couple hours.

BTW, that plastic on the ground was there before me. It's not from the Feej.

HI DeSudet, just got home from Physical Therapy and saw this; now I have to take Miss Donna to her Doctor's Appointment! Getting Old isn't for Sissies!

Well that sucks! I hope you get her home pronto, and get her fixed up just as quick.

She's home now. Co-worker lent his jeep and we did the u-haul trailer thing. Now it's just waiting for the claims adjuster to reach out to me.

I tapped the rear bumper of a GMC Sierra pickup. Didn't even smudge his bumper. Actual impact speed probably wasn't more than 5mph, but the top of his bumper lined up perfectly with the tip of her nose which pushed the headlight assembly back at a weird angle. Cowl plastic is a lost cause, but the side panels appear to have come away unscathed. You can see the smudge the bottom of his bumper left on the fender when it pushed that down. I don't think the forks made contact, but I could be wrong. The plastic dust covers have popped out of their seats and rattle around, crunching on the light assembly when the front's compressed. My biggest worry is that the support structure behind the instruments got bent up and will need replaced. That's gonna be a real pain.

Once she's back together, first order of business is 2 accessories. First, FZ1 mirrors so I don't find myself in another blind spot induced situation like this. Second, an SAE rat tail on the battery for charging in case I have to leave it for more than an hour with the parking/hazard lights on. I managed to bump start it down the off ramp, but it wasn't running long enough to put a meaningful charge back in the battery.

HIs bumper lined up with the nose of your FJR?!?!? I thought nobody outside of Georgia and Alabama jacked their trucks up that high.

Glad you're physically unhurt. Sorry about the emotional and financial toll.

The more I think about it, I was braking hard trying not to hit him. His bumper was stock, which means there has to have been that much compression in the forks for the headlight to hit the top and the fender to graze the bottom. Only thing that makes sense.

Emotional toll? meh. Financial? Oh yeah. 45-50 miles a day on the bike is only a gallon. Now I have to use one of my cages for commuting and that's gonna be an extra gallon a day, more than doubling my fuel costs while the bike's being settled. That's what makes me want to cry. Well, that and not having my head in the wind and knees in the breeze. OK, mostly the head and knees thing.

You haven't been to central Florida, have you?

Glad you got her back home, and really hope the insurance thing goes smoothly and in you favor.

Ha, at the price of fuel I wasn't buying the saving gas money at all however the head and knees thing is perfectly understandable. Glad you are ok.

I sure hope you were talking about DeSudet's bike. And not, you know, Miss Donna.

btw, I'd go ahead and change that right headlight bulb now, DeS. Just cuz it'll be so easy.

If that front stay - "subframe" - is even slightly tweaked, the new plastic and all else will be a ***** to install and ultimately will not line up. It is an expensive item from Yamaha - just under $300. Be certain it is exactly true or replace it. My bet: slightly bent.

I just dropped it off at the shop. The stay is definitely tweaked and replacing it is in the plans. Given that the headlight assembly MSRPs at just short of $1000, I'm already well beyond my deductible and having the stay replaced is just pocket change by comparison. Might have a quote by the end of the week, but most likely next week. I figure another week for the insurance company to disburse, and then another week for parts to come in, and yet another week for the work. Amazing how a couple of seconds can cost a month or more

Good news is the forks are fine. The funky plastic caps on the forks above the fenders popped out of place when the headlight hit the tops of them, but didn't break and nothing touched the forks themselves. Looks like it really is just the cowling, headlight, and stay. Will know more after the shop digs into it.

Sorry I didn't see this two days ago or I might have been able to help.

Good luck with the repairs!

Ugh. $4,000 estimate, $3,000 of it parts. Mostly the stays and tupperware, although I haven't gotten hold of the whole quote. Insurance adjuster is supposed to be out to the shop next week to confirm the quote, take his photos, etc. Then a few days for them to make a decision on whether they're paying or not. If the mirrors are part of the quote, I'll see if I can talk the shop into using the FZ1s instead.

Can anyone confirm that these are the correct ones to fit a Gen III?

Left & Right

Those would be the correct mirrors for a Gen II, not sure if the Gen III mirrors mount the same as the Gen II.
