    Building saddlebags?

If the economy wasn't in the tank I might, but for the foreseeable future I'm counting my pennies. Besides, it's more fun to DIY something than to just buy it, eh? Rancho P.S. Madmike2 - Two people, two week camping trip. Two saddlebags plus the Givi might not be enough.

    Building saddlebags?

Funny. It never even occurred to me that someone would want smaller saddlebags. Never even thought about that. I don't have any troubles splitting lanes with the factory bags, though. The FZ1 mirrors are great guides--just a smidge wider than the bags, so if the mirrors fit..... Anyway...

    Building saddlebags?

I did some Googling with no effect, so I'm gonna poke at the communal brain trust. (Insert Bustanut/odot humor here as applicable...... ) Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has built fibreglass or carbon fiber saddlebags for the FJR that use the factory mounting system. Gotta...

Torque value for plastic cowling hex bolts

There are only three torque settings you need for any fastener on the bike: White knuckle Grunt Break wind The fairing fasteners are all white knuckle fasteners. Rancho

    Weird 'hiccup'

 Good grief Charlie Brown. What a disaster. Not much else to be said, eh? Sorry doesn't help in the slightest and I'd be unglued about that kind of ineptitude. If my '05 ever has a problem like that (30k miles right now with no issues) I definitely don't see any reason to expect...

    *shiver...* withdrawal sucks!!!

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Sure. Where's the "Distancing myself from this obviously deluded and possibly psychotic lunatic" smiley? :P Or did you mean "special" as in "they drive like they just got off the short bus" special? Rancho

    *shiver...* withdrawal sucks!!!

Electric gear is your friend. I've got heated grips and a Warm n Safe jacket and I can ride well below the 50s. (Yeah, it does occasionally get that cold here.) Add heated gloves and pants and I could ride into the 20s or 30s, I'd think. I know of some guys who ride down into the teens and...

I love my FJR ; but where did the weight come from

How much it weighs only matters when you're trying to pick it up. Not that I'd know. Rancho

    major fu#ck up

Interesting thought. When I was pulling off the swingarm to lube the pivot I noticed that the spec for the bolt torque was really modest--something like 7 foot pounds or some such. My torque wrench had a minimum of 20 foot pounds and I didn't want to just wing it on the swingarm pivot, so I...

    gen 1 vs gen 2

"Vibrating taco tower." Oh christ. I'm gonna piss myself. There's a new term for me.   Rancho "PUI" Bob

    gen 1 vs gen 2

Lotsa truth in this. The general rule seems to be that blind people and those with dysfunctional vision seem to like the Cerule Sirul Cerealu '04 color while people who recognize that just because some fruits call graffiti "urban art" doesn't make it so. :P :P :P On the heat issue, I'm...

    Rewiring the Datel Digital Voltmeter

Hmmm....third pic is just a red x and I'm not too sure I mind. Though now I have ZZ Top's song "Velcro Fly" running through my head. Rancho

Grease your rear brake lever pivot shaft.

Oh I dunno. Strom hand guards down in front of the footpegs would probably keep your feet warmer and drier and would act as frame sliders and footpeg feelers as well. Nice deal. :D Rancho

Something I learned about FJRs & weak batteries

Boy I'm afraid to post here for fear of creating trouble. 2005 FJR with only 26k miles on her. I've run the battery stone dead more than once and each time just hooked it up to a battery charger and let it charge back up. So far it works like a charm. I've got an Electrosport...

    FJR rear suspension linkages

Yup. Gotta wonder what MamaYama was thinking when they assembled the bikes with the centerstand bolts that hard to remove. I just did mine, including pulling the headers and radiator to make life "easier." Next time it'll be a slam dunk, but the only bearings that really and truly needed...

Well, Isabella finally going to the Cycle Hospital for her transplant operation

Thanks for the explanation of all the farkling! I'm dyin'. I thought I went over the top, but now I clearly see that I'm well towards the fat end of the bell curve. You, my friend, are an outlier. :P I totally get where you're coming from about talking to folks from Mississippi (ever...

    Gen 1 running hotter

Oh **** me to tears. WTF with that ****? *gagging* You clearly need to go visit the Toxic Brittney thread at ADV. (I'd link it here, but I'm not sure what the pr0n rules are here. :D Bluesman: Good thought. On the agenda for this weekend is to pull the radiator cap and check for air...

Well, Isabella finally going to the Cycle Hospital for her transplant operation

OK, WTF? You need to get out a pen and label some of that stuff. I see a GPS, iPod, cupholder, thermometer, radar detector(?)(Held in place with a rubber band???), a moose call sticking out of the right side of the bike, and I'm sure I missed half of it. Patriot to the Farklers...
