So, in the end Three Bond never responded to what "Three Bond 1541" is or its equivalent.
I called Yamaha Customer Service and after about 20 minutes, they told me to use a high tack Permatex sealant. I asked if there was a Yamabond equivalent but they couldn't identify one.
Here is a pic from...
Thanks everyone! I've decided I'll go with some type of Permatex sealant/adhesive on the cover interface and Yamabond 4 on the lobes.
However, in the interest of closing this "1514" mystery I contacted Three Bond. I did get a response from Three Bond, They agree that "Yamabond 4" is an...
Any thoughts on just using the "Yamabond 4" to seal the gasket to the camshaft/valve cover?
In general what is the best applicatino method. The stuff comes in a large tube and the channel in the cover is relatively narrow. Don't think I want to squeeze the tube into the channel, maybe a short...
@Fred W, It doesn't look like there was much "gasket maker" (Yamabond 4) on the gasket lobes to cylinder head interface. I could see where a very small speck had hardened on the inside of the head. So, I think if any is used it is only a very thin film.
I'm still not sure what to use on the...
Just checked my valves (they are OK) and replacing my valve cover gasket on my 2006. Yamaha shop manual recommends the following:
Three Bond 1514 between the valve cover and gasket.
Three Bond 1215 between the gasket lobes (the half moon shape protrusions) and the cylinder head.
Per...
So, as it is about 20F-30F in my garage right now what is the recommendation?
1. Wait until warmer weather?
2. Run the engine, than do the tear down?
The problem with #2 is the race to get to the valve check before the engine cools.
I'm 6'6" with a 36" inseam. I'm a tight fit. I've actually put some clear protective film on the fairing bits where my knees rest. My knees aren't normally resting on the fairing unless I'm braking or riding hard.
My wife rides with me often, so I have experience hauling a passenger. I also...
Sorry, I don't have pictures but I had good pie here last week:
ADK Cafe, https://www.theadkcafe.com/ Keene, NY in the Adirondacks.
Big Moose Station 2138 Big Moose Road Eagle Bay, NY 13331.
I'd be happy with something like lane sharing when traffic is moving it less than half the posted speed. There are days I know I've driven the car to work instead of sitting in stop and go traffic in full gear in the heat. The problem is operators would have to do math! ;)
@Fred W, thanks for the input. If I decide to head south out of Burlington I would head for the Catskills pretty quick after crossing the southern VT boarder.
Thanks all,
@Willie, looks like some nice riding but I don't plan to get that close to New York. The Hawk's Nest area is in range though.
@Bigbeavk, That area is nice riding I've been through there before and might hit it again this trip. The Andes Hotel andeshotel.com is a cool overnight spot...
My final destination is the Baltimore are; but I'm trying to decide between heading West out of Burlington into the Adirondacks against a South run through Vermont.
Assuming I go south, what are the recommend routes and/or must see spots? Looking at the Google Maps I'm willing to go as far East...
IMO, you can't go wrong with a Macanudo. I've enjoyed these medium bodied cigars of late:
Oliva Connecticut Reserve Robusto (5" x 50)
CAO Black Ltd. Bengal (6" x 50)
The Perdomo Habano Gran Torp. COR is a bit more bold.
On my multi-day rides whiskey and cigars are mandatory each evening.
Enjoy!
Nice work Android VNC to your mobile laptop running PC! So now you're a roving wifi hotspot? Better hope some punk at the Starbucks doesn't throttle your map by logging in as you ride by :)
