    Gen 2 ECU

I'd rather not buy from eBay. You never know what you're really getting.

    Gen 2 ECU

Anyone have an ECU from a scrapped Gen 2 laying around? Awhile back my recalled ECU died. I replaced it with the pre-recall ECU and all is well, except now I have the "altitude sickness" again, and since I've already been recalled, the only option is to either find a used ECU that's post...

    What undercut gears look like

Check out the link in my sig. It shows how I undercut the dogs and slots on the existing gears in an XS1100. It's not as hard as many believe it to be.

    What undercut gears look like

The natural tendency of a straight cut gear dog is to push apart slightly. This is because the gears can twist slightly on the shafts. If the gears are in good shape, this is not an issue as the loads generated are not enough to separate them. However, when the gear dogs or slots wear and the...

    What undercut gears look like

No sir. I'm a working stiff. Still another 20 years tip I can retire. It was a labor of love.

    What undercut gears look like

Yup. I did that to an XS1100 by hand with a dremil. The results were excellent. It's in the link in my sig line if you're interested in how it's done.

    Air flow sensor test

Fail. Installed the new Thermosensor assembly, and the bike is still acting the same. I don't know where to look next.

    Santa Cruz trip suggestions

You need to make a side trip to Pescadero. Archangeli's bakery has some of the best 1/2 baked breads anywhere, and they have a lot of artisan goods too. Archangeli Grocery 287 Stage Road Pescadero, CA 94060 (650) 879-0147...

    Useful Hint - Tank Removal

On the Gen 2, you can loosen the bolts to the front seat mount and scootch it forward a bit. Since the back of the tank is attached to the same bracket it helps with the front bolt alignment.

    Air flow sensor test

diAG 5 is 55. Ambient temp is 39 currently. And yes, I'm at 39' above sea level.

    Useful Hint - Tank Removal

I've found setting the tank on a plastic garbage can works well. The tabs and shape of the tank hold it in place with little risk of dropping it.

    Air flow sensor test

No love on the vacuum pump, however I did find the test procedures for the various sensors in the manual. The MAP sensor passes the voltage test just fine at 4.09 volts. The air temp sensor fails miserably tho. It reads no contact at 80 C. It should read 290-390 ohms at 80 C. Guess I'm ordering...

    Air flow sensor test

I have neither a vacuum pump, nor an oscilloscope (Not that I"d have a clue how to use one if I did ). Tho I do have a friend who may have a vacuum pump. I'll get back on that in a few.

    Air flow sensor test

Update: I rode the bike to work this morning (40 degrees ambient temp), and it ran just like it should. Felt like my old bike again. On the way home however, it acted up again and started stumbling on take-offs (70 degrees ambient temp). I got home and checked diAG 3. 101 dropping to 94 on...

    Air flow sensor test

Good to hear the values are OK for the sensor, I was wondering about that. I did find the air pressure sensor last night after RTFM for awhile, exactly where JamesK said it would be BTW. The sensor looked OK with no visible cracks or damage. The hoses were replaced not long ago when the timing...

    Air flow sensor test

Now that I've found my manual, apparently I cleaned the air temperature sensor, not the air pressure sensor Once I locate the pressure sensor, I'll check that out as I still think it may be the culprit.
