Valve cover leak, looking for some help in northern Colorado

Some background: Prior to my retirement in May, 2019, I had never done any kind of mechanical work on any vehicle of any kind. I bought a new-to-me 2007 FJR 1300A in May, 2020 that had 49,600 kms on the odometer. Like RossKean in post #2, I also did the valve check unassisted without having...

Headlight adjusters: do they do anything?

Know that however you set them for 1-up, the aim will change if you add luggage or add a pillion rider or add both. The setting will also have to be changed if you aimed the headlights while you had the rear shock in the "soft" position and you change to riding in the "hard" position. Have fun...

Where do you buy your oil change kit from

I happen to still have 2 empty containers that I have not yet taken to the recycling depot: Castrol Go! Motorcycle oil SAE 10W-40 and Motomaster Motorcycle oil SAE 10W-40. They both say "Motorcycle oil" on the containers. In fact, the Motomaster container has "recommended for Harley Davidson...

Where do you buy your oil change kit from

Canadian Tire. Whatever motorcycle-specific oil is on-sale at the time. Same for the filter. I never had to change a crush washer and I never had a leak at the drain plug.

    Frame plugs

I only use the side cases when touring. I figure if (when?) I drop the bike, I will have less to repair or replace. I also never use the plugs. I figure nobody will notice those "holes" in the frame when I pass them on the highway or when I am riding the twisties or from the sidewalk when I am...

Lessons Learned on changing the CCT

Thank-you, RiderJoe. I agree with all of your points:)

Lessons Learned on changing the CCT

Finally done! The parts took about 3 weeks to arrive from Hamilton, Ontario. The CCT was a green dot version. My estimated total time-on-task was 6 hours over three days. RossKean was correct: getting a wrench on the flange bolts and breaking them loose was the worst. I did manage after a trip...

Lessons Learned on changing the CCT

So, I am this point in the procedure: "After cutting the ty-wrap and before buttoning things up, manually turn the engine through at least two complete crankshaft revolutions (crank turns CW from the right side) while observing the timing chain" Question: What exactly am I...

    Unexpected Ride Change

Welcome to the forum, from Moncton, NB, Canada. I came to the FJR clan in the exact same way as you did: a cager turned left across my path and destroyed my Honda ST1300. I was wearing a Helite Airbag vest and walked away with only minor bruising on my leg.

    2007 FJR Starter Issues

The starter is not turning as fast as it should, suggesting low battery voltage. Try jumping the battery with a known good battery. If your starter turns faster with the known good battery attached, you probably need a new battery. The bike may still not start, even with the starter turning...

    2007 FJR Starter Issues

I suggest you video (with the audio turned on) your attempt to start your bike. Post the video and then we will all have a better idea of what the problem might be.

Lessons Learned on changing the CCT

Thanks for the very helpful info. I checked out the link you posted. As you undoubtedly know, it is a USA site. Is that where you source your parts? If so, why Yamaha USA vs Yamaha Canada? Price? Reliability? Better service? Out of habit?

Lessons Learned on changing the CCT

So.....I finally took a look at the CCT on my 2007 FJR1300A. No dot of any color. CRAP! My question: When I order a replacement CCT from Yamaha Canada, do I order using the part number for a 2007 (part #: 5JW-12210-01-00) trusting that they will ship an updated CCT that has a green dot or blue...
