knowing what i know about gear Now, I would get this instead:

^ ^ ^ This I've ridden in very hot weather & only 'had' to take it off once - on the Jersey Tpke when temps hit triple digits & the humidity was unbelieveable.

    Factory sidecases...worth it?

LMAO Other than the bike color and I don't see a tripod & extra gas can that looks like my '08 when I started out on my Alaska ride - 11,000 mi in 18 days. Good choice on getting the bags -

Picking up (and breaking in) my new 2014 ES

Good luck with the new ride. Looks great! I did the same routine from Connecticut 5 years ago the people at D&H couldn't have been nicer. My "breakin" ride was first to St Louis for a business stop (thanks to knifemaker for letting me do an oil change in his garage) then home. I did learn...

Musings of an aging FJR rider

Well, good luck with your decision - whatever it is. My previous 2 rides were Wings. The first one I sold with 125K miles on her and the second had 140K. Then (2008) I flew down to Culman, AL & bought my FJR (at age 62). I find I am not riding as much as I used to - my last 'big' ride was cross...

    I suck!

Sorry to hear you hurt the baby but glad you are (more or less) ok. Like flying an airplane, any stop you can walk away from is a good stop.

When do you consider it to be to hot to ride?

I usually ride to work each day provided its not raining. However this summer has been really hot & humid and I ride with full gear including the Cycleport mesh kevlar jacket. It may be mesh but its heavy and its not so great going into the office with my shirt wet & sticking to me :( That...

    Riding after a wreck

Just started reading this thread Sigepkat & hope you are doing fine. fwiw my only collision in almost 50 years of riding occured a few years ago. I was at a stop light and a woman rear ended me - fortunately not too fast. Fast enough to flip me off onto my (helmeted) head. Here it is a few years...

Trying to get Bounce's email address

Thanks again Bounce - I was really surprised when I followed the breadcrumbs from your STI page to the FJR page. lol I didn't know there were that many common owners :) The only issue I have with my Homelink mirror install is it not a firm mount to the glass adapter. There is some up/down...

Trying to get Bounce's email address

Thanks Ignacio! I shot him a PM. btw did we meet in WA a couple of years ago? I was riding up the west coast & stopped at a 'tech party' at a rider's house outside of Seattle. Did a quick oil change & met 10-12 NW riders then booked east on some of the roads they suggested.

Trying to get Bounce's email address

I was doing some mod work on my STI & needed some wiring info. Googled the interwebby & there was an excellent article by giving me everything I needed (and more). Tried tracking him down to shoot him a 'thank you' email & stumbled on his site: https://www.fjr-tips.org/ Its also a great site...

    Best Place To Buy?

Just a fwiw Wheaton. I flew down there in 08 to buy mine. They are TERRIFIC people - they did pick me up at the airport. At least back then, Alabama has no temporary plates :( I rode 1st to ST Louis (thanks Knifemaker for the assist in my first oil/filter change) then back home to CT - all...

Am I right to be pissed?

Yes, that's the place. And to to other posters comments - yep, you are all right - I should have asked how much beforehand. . . It was an additional 1-1/2 hours labor charge, that's what I thought was over the top after they had the bike already opened. The $5 per plug & $30 for air filter is...

    First "long" ride.

Sounds like a day trip :P I wouldn't take a damn thing except your clothes, a credit card, camera and cell phone - you are not exactly going to Argentina

Am I right to be pissed?

So I take my bike in for the spider recall 8 days ago. When the service manager is writing it up I casually say while you have evrything open there you may as well change the plugs & air filter - 1st time for the plugs (37K miles) so I figure I'll pick up another 13.78 HP by changing them, based...

    GSG-Moto Framesliders

Smart move! I found one of mine had loosened up after 2K of riding. I was lucky - caught it on a preride inspection, before it fell out

    Do I change them out?

I don't profess to know a whole lot about different brands but wouldn't a 'lumen output' comparison be useful?
