    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

One thing I’ve done with Pork ribs or a Beef Pot Roast cut (which we have quite often) is to leave the Pit Boss on the lowest “Smoke” setting for the first hour or so. That has a temp setpoint of 180F, but it also seems to feed more pellets with less air to make more smoke. After an hour I’ll...

salmon was nicely cooked but far too salty. Followed the recipe, which said no need to wash off the dry brine. Yeah, no. Wash off the salt next time.

@Knifemaker - Get some better pellets and try again. Hickory or Charred Hickory pellets will put more smoke flavor and more ring on those ribs. But honestly, they will never be as “outstanding” as pork ribs cooked on a live wood fire, and apple wood is my choice. Just cooked and consumed some...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Yeah. I’m becoming less enamored with the taste of charcoal as time goes on. As you know, I have a UDS and BBQ Guru too. I really like how easy it is to cook pork butts, BUT… that’s about it. iI’m starting to dislike the charcoal flavor on pretty much any other BBQ. I’m afraid I brought it...

Wasn’t thrilled with the Pit Boss Competition blend. Maybe the Apple will work better.

You are going to love it. Yes, quite a different experience from smoking with a live wood fire, and much better tasting than charcoal. Important: get good pellets. Not the expensive ones, the good ones. I like Lumberjack brand, but they can be hard to find. We have a farm/home store...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Yeah, these were about 4 lbs each, whereas the baby backs I usually get are closer to 3 lbs per rack. The three of us (wife, her mother and I) only ate a half of the rack. Wife’s brother and his family are coming to visit in a couple weeks, so those other three racks were earmarked for that...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Haven’t seen anything here in a while. I still like my smoked meats, too much perhaps, but I do often wimp out and use the pellet smoker. It’s just so easy. Smoked roasts Or pork loins come out just as good, with far less work. Today was not one of those days. I scored 4 huge racks of pork...

    Leaning...

Racing is all good. I wouldn’t choose a nearly 700 lb mega sport touring pig rig for my ride, but we all do crazy things. I happen to know some people that take stupidly fat 500 lb. ADV bikes down slippery, snotty trails, just to see if they can get through (guilty!). And sometimes we fail...

Hey George, I hope all is well with you and your crew. Yeah, i never could gell with the PR2 front tires. That swoopy tread pattern always resulted in horrendous buzzing when leaned-in. But those PR2 rears have been treating me well for at least a decade. I love ‘em. I was really surprised...

I’m still able to get Michelin PR2s (yes PR2s, which I love) and Pirelli Angels on Amazon with date codes as recent as 2 years old, off of vendors on Amazon. The beauty of buying on Amazon is if you get an old date code, just send them back. No problem. No return shipping cost.

    Happy rat

I still remember the day back in the fall of 2006 when I picked up my ‘05, used, looking much like yours does now. Oh, what a long strange trip it‘s been. Put 90k miles on that bike, moved to a 2014 ES and I’m 55k into that one. Never a serious problem on either of them. Sit back, and enjoy...

    My 2018 FJR Phantom Blue

If your time is limited, you may want to check into using the “auto train” north from Florida. Would lop off a big chunk of hot weather, not-so-nice riding down south while you sleep. We talked to a group of 3, Florida plate GS riders at the Peaks of Otters lodge on the BRP about a week ago...

    Smokers (BBQ - not grilling)

Looks great. We do pulled pork tacos pretty regularly. we usually opt for the soft tortillas vs. hard shells. In fact, I cooked up a whole bunch of smoked pork shoulder for the PP tacos for the rehearsal dinner for my son’s wedding several years back. They live just down the hill from us...

That is contrary to historical results. Most don’t require adjustment to 3rd or 4rth check. Always willing to hear contrary opinions, but that is what the collective reported.
