Tips on getting Spouse to feel safe on the FJR

+1 on Tylers suggestion. Until Zea started riding her own bike she did a lot of photography from the pillion seat, and really became quite expert at it. She really enjoyed it - getting the horizons straight, etc. Because we have family in other countries she also enjoys putting the piccies up...

    Reverse Trike

Just stumbled upon this thread - very, very neat. Looks like a great project.

Lost 'tool' somewhere in the bowels

I can understand the need to know where it went. I had a bolt that secures the tank on my old 600Fazer go MIA one ride - thought it probably bounced down the road. 3 Months later, changing spark plugs, when I blew the dirt and gunk out of the plug-well prior to loosening the plug, lo and...

My wife's contemplating becoming a rider!

That's really great!! Zea (my wife) got her Unrestricted Bike licence (as it's called here in Aussie) last November, after spending a year riding her Honda CBF250 (250 Single). The 250 was great for the year, as it enabled her to get her confidence, and when she did drop it (about 3 times -...

GenI seat gave me bruises, anyone else?

And I've done 6,000 k's in 8 days (thats 450 miles a day), SS1000, 1,000k days on a stock Gen 1 seat with no problems; then also a 18-dat, 8,500 tour on a Gen II (stock seat, partly with, partly without airhawk) and had no problems. For everyone who complains about the stock seat, there are at...

** BRODIE NEEDS OUR HELP ** Serious Collision **

I came accross this today (Sunday evening Aussie time) and have just read the whole thread. First, Brodie, I thank God in a deep and sincere way for your survival and comparatively minimal injuries. Wow - I'm lost for words. Please also pass our care and concern on to your wife - I am sure...

    REVEALED: Roger Hayden's Moto2 racebike!

Agree on many fronts - Moto2 has some incredible racing, and it's amazing that he came through that crash (apparently) without a broken bone!

    Riding and Video Taping

Here's what I did: This one was done with a digicam on a mount on the passenger footpeg mounting point.

    Moto GP England

Some Italian media report he has already signed with Honda. But both Lorenzo and Rossi are off contract at the end of the year (rumours of Ducati offering Rossi a 2-year deal). Jeremy Burgess (Rossi's team manager) was in Australia recently and gave 'expert comments' during the pre-race and...

    Moto GP England

The word here (in Australia) is that they have 'tamed' the power delivery of the Ducati (and this is also part of the clutch issues). Casey seemed to be the only rider that could cope with that wild power delivery, but the changes they have made have nullified some of his riding advantage to...

    Handlsing with topcase attached

I have found the screen does have an effect. The smaller the screen, and lower (in other words, smaller frontal area) seems to minimise the disturbed airflow effect. This observation is subjective. I ride with a screen that is about 4 in higher and 2 in wider than stock, and if I feel the...

    Handlsing with topcase attached

When you are solo with a topbox the airflow tries to close behind you, then is forced apart by the topbox. The air flowing around the topbox doesn't always 'spill' equally each side - depends on all sorts of things - your riding position, 'angle of attack' of wind (from front, side, whatever)...

    Is this good for me?

Here's our stable, and my comments: '01FJR (yes, we got them that long ago in Australia) - great bike, check that you are comfortable 'height/leg length' wise as it does seem heavy in parking situations. My wife loves it a s a pillion and we have done many 500-mile days. Great power, looks as...

New Zealand Bike Trip any advice

maddad, on the Aussie FJR forum there is a guy by the name of Bernie, who toured there a few years ago. Shipped his bike over from Aussie. If you join up there and ask him he will have lots of useful suggestions https://forum.fjr13.org/index.php He is on his 4th FJR (from memory) - all traded...

    Mapsource Time Diference

Quite the opposite. When touring SW USA last year our 'usual' travelling speed was the sped limit +15 mph when alone, or 'with the traffic' when in traffic (eg - Las Vegas to LA, where we had to use I15 and were constantly in traffic travelling mostly at speed limit to sl +10). We avoided all...

    Mapsource Time Diference

Interesting discussion. I find my Zumo (550) way optimistic. It calculates the time based on maintaining the speed limit the whole journey, including through towns, etc. I have not seen it 'learning' as some people describe. I have come to completely disregard the Zumo estimated trip time...

    Look What Followed Me Home

Short, on-thread hijack. 18 months ago we found this guy under our piano after our dog got all excited. That's my son holding the snake and his wife on teh left, his Mum (my wife  ) freaking on the right: Harmless (except to rats, etc) yellow-bellied 'something' snake (I've...

    Mugello MotoGP

Moto 2 - I haven't watched it yet, but have it recorded. Last round there was only 1.3 seconds covering the first 27 riders, this time there was less than 1.5 sec between pole and p28! Great fun to watch.
